The Grove City Division of Police held its annual awards ceremony on July 21 at the Grove City Council meeting.

Police Chief Joe Wise said the department has an awards committee that selects the winners.

"We are very proud of our employees," the chief said.

The award for Officer of the Year went to Doug Fraley. The officer was nominated by three of his co-workers for his dedication to the job and his positive and professional attitude.

Fraley has served in the department as a detective and a DARE officer.

The Civilian of the Year was awarded to Gary Browning, who works as a custodian for the department.

"He is described as a caretaker," said Wise. "He spoils us."

Dispatcher Laurie Grener and Reserve Officer Gary Hilles were given the Community Service Citation. Officer Derek Caudill and Sgt. Chris White were honored with the Blue Shield Award.

Officer Kevin Holmstrom received the Lifesaving Award for rendering CPR in an emergency situation. Wise said emergency workers from the Jackson Township Fire Department credited the officer with saving the victim’s life.

An awards reception followed the ceremony. Those awarded were praised by the community and city leaders.

"We’ve got the best of the best," said Grove City Mayor Ike Stage.
