Grove City has been appointed to sit on the 2008 Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Executive Committee.

Deputy City Administrator Michael Wasylik will serve as the principal committee member and Grove City Police Chief Joe Wise will be the alternate member.

The agency originated in 1950 as an informal group organized by (then) Columbus Mayor James Rhodes. The volunteer organization was established to assist in warning citizens of expected air raids by enemy aircraft. In 1952, it was formally organized as The Columbus and Franklin County Civil Defense Organization (CFCCDO).

Over the years, the agency has evolved in both name and purpose. It currently operates 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week as an emergency response agency. The agency responds to weather watches and warnings, hazardous materials spills, aircraft accidents, and any other incident in the county that may require assistance. Its priorities also include preparation for more plausible threats such as terrorist attack.

"Grove City is proud to serve on a county wide agency addressing vital EMS issues," said Wasylik.

The first executive committee meeting is March 19 at 9 a.m.
