Franklin Township Trustees will protest a request by a resident to re-zone an area of Brown Road.

The resident, whose name was not released by Franklin Township Trustee Chair Tim Guyton, applied for a zoning variance in order to continue running an auto repair and paint shop from his home on Brown Road.

According to Guyton, the resident had been operating the business in a residentially zoned area for an unknown amount of time.

"We found out about the business through the notice of the zoning variance," said Guyton after the May 1 township trustee meeting.

"We are contesting mainly because they are non-compliant from the fire side with poor exhaust, poor storage of flammables, and lack of cooperation with our fire inspector, but also because the area is mostly residential and we think it should stay that way."

The Board of Zoning Appeals will decide, based on feedback from the Board of Trustees and the neighbors in the area, as to whether or not to accept the application, which has been tabled twice.

The Board of Zoning Appeals meets once a month.
