“Friends” gather for a good cause

Inclement weather may have thwarted a planned cleanup event at Westgate Park, but a few “friends” still managed to find a way to get their hands dirty to improve the aesthetics of the popular community gathering place. On April 9, Jillian Manning, Ric Brandel (pictured here from left to right) and a small group of additional Friends of Westgate Park volunteers braved the rain and snow to unload more than 100 bags of mulch and soil donated by Green Columbus that will be used to beautify the park at a later date. For more planned cleanup and beautification events at the park, visit their Facebook page or website at friendsofwestgatepark.org.
Westside resident Sharon Cassady reacts as she hauls a sodden bag of mulch to the storage facility. “It feels like more than 40-pounds,” she said.
