The West Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department hosted a Family Fishing Fiesta on Sept. 14 at the Duke farm house on State Route 29. Free bait and food were provided. Prizes were awarded for the most fish caught, smallest fish, largest fish and ugliest fish. This was a catch-and-release event.

Jade Schweitzer, 10, watches as Ron Killian from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife measures the large mouth bass she caught at West Jefferson’s Family Fishing Fiesta. The fish measured more than 11 inches, putting Schweitzer in contention for the largest fish caught.
Hannah Dennen, 12, of West Jefferson holds the blue gill she caught at West Jefferson’s Family Fishing Fiesta. She registered her catch for a chance at a prize in the smallest-fish category.
