The Jeffersonian Senior Citizen Center is hosting a Fall Festival on Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot at Pat’s Pizza & Pub, 55 E. Main St., and South Chester Street. The public is invited to attend. Fun for the whole family is planned.
The event will feature over 40 vendors, including participants in the West Jefferson Farmer’s Market. Other vendors will be selling everything from art, jewelry, wreaths, and crocheted items to sporting equipment and Tupperware. A Medicare representative will be on hand to provide information.
Free face-painting by Kiara will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children ages 12 and younger.
The festival also includes an unusual contest for those who are adventurous: The Bug Eating Challenge, sponsored by The X-Terminator Pest Control of West Jefferson (Mike Conway). Contestants must be at least 16 years old. Minors need a parent or guardian to sign a consent form when registering. Registration runs from 10 a.m. to noon. The entry fee is $10. The contest kicks off at 1 p.m. Prizes are: first place, $175 and a trophy; second place, $100; and third place, $75.
For visitors looking for more traditional ways to satisfy their appetites, five food trucks will be on site: Tortilla Street Food, Layman Family Concessions, Addy’s Culinary Canvas, Uncle Troy’s Kettle Corn, and Ashley’s Lemonade Shake Ups.
Additionally, the Jeffersonian Seniors are holding a bake sale and selling raffle tickets for items donated by local businesses. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and can be purchased at the seniors’ booth next to the entrance to Pat’s Pizza. Among the raffle items are gift certificates to area restaurants and merchants, collector coins, and auto detailing supplies.
The festival serves as a way for the Jeffersonian Senior Citizen Center to give back to the community, as well as build awareness of their programs and services. The center is located at 174 E. Main St., West Jefferson. For more information about the center, call (614) 302-8883.
