Riding around the ring

Arielle Smith of the RR Ropers 4-H Club brings her horse to a walk in the Working Hunter Under Saddle horse and pony class on July 7. She earned second place for her efforts.

Exclusively equine

Alicia Ferguson of the Exclusively Equine 4-H Club rides to a third-place finish in the Working Hunter Under Saddle horse and pony class on July 7.

All dressed up

Taylor Evans, 16, sports a mom-and-daughter theme for her entry in the Dress Up Your Goat contest on July 7. Besides the fun contests, Evans also signed up to show cows, dairy, swine and goats at the fair. She was a member of 4-H from the time she was in third grade and is a first-year member of Madison-Plains FFA.

Toops scoops up first place

Lindsay Toops, a member of the Darby Riders 4-H Club, nabs a first-place finish in the Western horse showmanship class (ages 8-13) on July 7.

Taking a round in the ring

Isaac Davidson, a member of the Buckeye Rangers 4-H Club, competed in the Western horse showmanship class on July 7. He placed fourth.

Mix and measure

Heidi Weber carefully assembles a pina colada pie recipe in the intermediate class of the creative baking contest on July 7. Weber, 13, is a member of the Clover Clippers 4-H Club and a resident of West Jefferson. A first-year 4-Her, she also completed a sewing project.

Ponying up a win

Her pony was small, but her prize was big. Paisley Roberts of the Barn Bratz 4-H Club won the Western pony showmanship class July 7.

Starlight Rider takes third

Third place in the Western pony showmanship class went to Nick Shuler of the Starlight Riders 4-H Club. The competition was held on July 7.

Manning the microphone

Fred Feaver of Galloway mans the microphone as announcer for the various Junior Fair horse showmanship competitions held July 7. Feaver’s daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Brian Briggs, are horse key leaders for the Madison County 4-H program.

What’s it going to be?

Awaiting the judge’s decision are: (from left) Jordi Verhoeven of the Green Range 4-H Club, Cameron Parker of the Monroe Winners 4-H Club, and Justin Lemmerman of the Monroe Winners. All three were entrants in the junior class of Junior Fair dairy showmanship contest, which took place on July 7.
