In preparation for this year’s fair, the Madison County Senior Fair Board went looking for a new ride company. They liked what they saw from Burton Brothers Amusements out of Indiana.

“They brought the most comprehensive, fun ride package,” said Paul Gross, fair board president. “We will have more rides than we have had in the past. The quality and breadth of what they have to offer is excellent.”

The company does numerous events in Ohio and came well recommended by other fairs, he added.

Bradd, Benjamin, and Bryce Burton are fifth generation concessionaires who learned the business alongside their parents while operating Jessop’s Famous Candies, an Indiana State Fair institution since 1852. They also ran their own concession, game, and ride operations before bringing their experience together to form Burton Brothers Amusements in 1995. All three grew up on a farm and were active in 4-H, so they know what county fairs are all about. Their motto: “To provide the highest quality family entertainment experience possible,” drawing on their family’s 150 years of experience in the industry.

For the Madison County Fair, Burton Brothers will set up 15 rides, 10 games, and some concessions on the midway. The fair board is making room for the additional rides by relocating the amusement company’s campers and RVs to another part of the fairgrounds. In the past, the crew’s quarters were set up behind the rides, facing Elm Street.

New this year, children can enjoy the rides for free from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. All they need to do is pay regular gate admission to the fair.

“We want more activity at the fair during the day,” Gross said as to why the fair is offering the free afternoon ride hours. “And there are a lot of kids off in the summer with nothing to do.”

Coughlin Automotive is sponsoring the free rides.

As usual, ride bracelet deals will be in affect other hours of the fair. Rides and games will be offered every day of the fair except the first day (Saturday, July 10). Regular ride hours are 5 p.m. to close.
