Messenger photos by Rick Palsgrove Fifty-five runners participated in Groveport’s Eyes on the Pie 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning in Groveport Park. Every runner received either a pumpkin pie or apple pie at the end of the race. Pictured here are the top two runners in the race. At right is first place winner Drew Osler of Pickerington, who finished with an unofficial time of 19:16. At left is the second place finisher, Cassie Kolonchuk, of Canal Winchester, who completed the course with an unofficial time of 20:07. Osler, who runs track and cross country at Otterbein University, said, “I liked the course.” Kolonchuk, who runs track and cross country at Baldwin-Wallace University, said it was “a nice, flat easy course” and that it was a “beautiful day for a race.”Runners at the start of the Eyes on the Pie 5K. Groveport City Councilman Shawn Cleary, who walked the 5K course, said of the race, “This is a great family oriented way to start Thanksgiving. I hope the event grows in the coming years. We have a great crowd this year for it.”Third place runner Desmonde X. Bennett of Columbus, who finished with an unofficial time of 23:15, waves to the camera as she nears the finish line. Bennett, who is also a marathon and ultra-marathon runner, said of the course, “It’s a great course.
