Grove City leaders expect an economic boost from the new hospital.

At a recent meeting, council approved an economic development agreement with Mount Carmel Health System.

Mount Carmel Grove City is a 37,000 square foot emergency department, located at 5350 North Meadows Drive. Mount Carmel plans to expand by adding a 500,000 square foot hospital, along with a medical office building. This is an investment of approximately $355 million in Grove City.

According to the jobs development and incentive agreement, the company will add about 1,500 jobs in the city. The city would also receive $3 million in income tax revenue during construction on the full-service hospital. Once the project is complete, the city would receive an estimated $2 million annually in income tax revenue.

Grove City Mayor Richard “Ike” Stage said it has been a long-term goal of his to provide better health care access to local residents.

“We are very pleased with this agreement,” said Stage.

As part of the agreement, Mount Carmel Health System has agreed to sell the city approximately 21 acres on the property that would remain open to the public. The open space includes a natural preserve with a stream. The city has also agreed to put forth $6 million toward the cost of a 305-space parking garage on the east side of the site. The parking would be free of charge for patrons.

It was in March of 2015 that Mount Carmel Health System announced it would expand its facility in Grove City. The hospital will feature more than 200 private rooms, seven floors of clinical services including inpatient and outpatient surgery, intensive care, oncology and palliative care. The campus will also have an expanded emergency department. It will be the headquarters for Mount Carmel Graduate Medical Education.

The full-service hospital is expected to be operational by 2018.

Brett Justice, a Mount Carmel representative, said, “This is going to add value to the community.”

Mount Carmel Grove City will be the first hospital in the market south of the Interstate 70 corridor. It would expand health care access to residents in the southern part of Franklin County.

Mount Carmel will be the largest private employer in Grove City.
