The Mount Sterling Community Center will host its annual Dolly and Me Tea Party from 4 to 5:30 p.m. May 19. The event is for girls and their favorite adults, as well as other ladies, and includes a buffet of tea sandwiches, veggie pizzas, cookies and other baked treats, and teas and lemonade.
Between bites, guests can browse the Dolly Shop for outfits and accessories that fit 18-inch dolls, such as American Girl dolls. The shop also will offer headbands and other fun items that fit little girls. Popular items at past tea parties have included doll outfits made by local volunteers and members of the Community Center’s Sewing Ladies. Quick to sell are the gowns sewn by Charlotte Crites, one of the event committee members, and her bathing outfits for 18-inch dolls.
The silent auction features themed doll outfits, complete with books, shoes and accessories to fit the theme. Popular themes from past tea parties have included of “Frozen,” “The Wizard of Oz” and Fancy Nancy. This year’s offerings include an American Girl doll, doll furniture, themed baskets, and must-haves for dolls and their little girls.
A highlight of the tea is the door prize table. Prizes include toys, books, games and doll accessories. One lucky girl will go home with Blair Wilson, this year’s American Girl Doll of the Year. Entry in the door prize drawing is free with admission.
New this year is Grandma’s Attic, a place to play dress-up. The options include hats, scarves, jackets, gloves, boas and fancy shoes–perfect for posing and picture taking. Also new is piano music by Mount Sterling resident Ralph Ross, who also will serve as emcee, announcing door prize winners between songs.
The Dolly and Me Tea Party is a fundraiser for the Mount Sterling Community Center. Volunteers and donors from the community provide the auction items, door prizes and food. Proceeds benefit activities at the center, such as the after-school program and food pantry, as well as space for the Sewing Ladies, community meetings, Alcoholic Anonymous meetings and more.
Past tea parties have sold out. Tickets are available prior to the party by calling the Community Center at (740) 869-2453 or stopping by the center, 164 E. Main St., Mount Sterling. Tickets are $6 for children ages 3-12 and $12 for adults. Children younger than 3 are admitted at no charge but must have a ticket. No tickets will be sold at the door.
