In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Canal Winchester’s Memorial Day ceremony, scheduled for May 25 has been canceled.

Noting concerns for maintaining social distancing and following mass gathering guidelines, Commander Rick Williams of VFW Post #10523 shared that the decision was difficult, but necessary.

“The health of our fellow comrades, the boy scouts and cub scouts, the high school band members, and also the many spectators who normally attend was our main concern,” said Williams. “We always aim to have a meaningful and dignified ceremony each year. Although we can’t all gather together this year, we ask everyone to please take time this Memorial Day to honor and remember the men and women who have given their all for this great country.”

Post members will explore alternatives for holding a private ceremony to honor and salute their fallen comrades this year.
