Canal Winchester Schools staff have a new way to honor their own with a new monthly recognition program—the Knocked Our Socks Off Award.
“We will honor two staff members each month during the board meeting,” said Canal Winchester Schools Superintendent Kiya Hunt during the Canal Winchester Board of Education’s Jan. 9 meeting. “Recipients are nominated by their peers. The leadership team will select one certified and one classified from the nominations. For the first time, I am excited to share two of our staff members with the Canal Winchester Schools.”
Award winner Jennifer Ebert is a high school paraprofessional who was nominated by a colleague calling Ebert “awesome” and a person who goes above and beyond in her first year of teaching.
Hunt presented Ebert with a certificate and a pair of custom created Canal Winchester branded socks.
Erin Bloomfield, a middle school Spanish teacher, was the certified winner. She received the Knocked Our Socks Off Award following a colleague nomination stating Bloomfield “puts the needs of our students first and what is in the best interests for them and not herself with grace and professionalism.”
Hunt said the staff members were recognized for going above and beyond.
Board officers
During the board’s organizational meeting preceding the regular Jan. 9 meeting, Matt Krueger was appointed board president and Monika Talley was appointed board vice president. Talley was also appointed the district’s Ohio School Board Association legislative liaison. Board members David George and Kevin Butler were appointed as representatives to the Canal Winchester Joint Recreation District.
