Canal Winchester officials announced the availability of an additional freestanding recycle container now available at the Canal Winchester Waste Management facility at 1006 W. Walnut St. The container, situated within the facility’s public parking area, supplements existing recycling options available to Canal Winchester residents and will be available 24 hours a day at no charge.

Waste Management will monitor and empty the on-site container daily during an introductory period and will note any service abuses or materials left outside of the container. Continued availability of the container is dependent upon proper public usage.

“We encourage our residents to use all recycling containers as intended and not to litter by discarding materials on the ground,” said Mayor Michael Ebert. “If a container is full when you attempt to use it, we ask that you please return another time.”

The city of Canal Winchester recently completed an expansion to its own downtown recycling center. The expansion doubled the location’s recycling capacity by offering residents an additional dedicated container. Downtown containers are emptied twice daily on Mondays and Fridays and once per day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. No pickup service is provided on weekends.

Both locations accept a variety of recyclable materials, however, due to a current downturn in the need for recycled glass products, Waste Management requests that no glass be deposited in the recycle containers at either location. Instead, residents may include glass in their regular trash. A list of accepted recyclables is posted at both locations.
