CW Labor Day Festival

The 94th annual Canal Winchester Labor Day Festival, presented by Diley Ridge Medical Center, will be held Aug. 30, 31 and Sept. 1 in historic downtown Canal Winchester.

“The Canal Winchester Labor Day Festival is a family event with a wide selection of food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, rides, games, free entertainment, hospitality tent and a renowned parade. There is something sure to please everyone in the family,” said Mayor Mike Ebert.

Music and more

The event features free daily festival admission and free Sunday Car Show admission, as well as free daily entertainment on two stages with more than 10 musical groups playing throughout the weekend.  Appearing on stage will be:  3-Cat Day, Braden Stover Band, Scott Thompson Band, Chris Higbee Band, Street Players, Usual Suspects & Repeat Offenders, Wolf Pack, Nostalgics Big Band, Spin Cycle, Rachel Karryn Band, Michael Archambault & Alex Schiff, and Cornerstone Church.

More than 30 food vendors and more arts and craft vendors will offer visitors dining and shopping choices throughout the weekend, including a quilt show hosted by Quilters on the Canal each day at the Community Center, 22 S. Trine St.

Those over age 21 may visit Kingy’s Hospitality Tent at its new location behind the Stradley Park Stage on South High Street.

The festival will also offer pony rides in the green space behind the Stradley Park stage all weekend.

Canal boat races

New this year are canal boat races at 4 p.m. on Aug. 30, a free team event located near Kingy’s Hospitality Tent. The event features wheeled, hand-crafted “canal boats” on 50-yard asphalt course. Teams will consist of four participants and may register in one of five categories. Each team will be required to complete a timed course with several challenges.  Prizes available in each category will include: first place winner’s plaque and $40, second place $20, and third place $10. Other events

Featured events on Aug. 30 include the Canal Winchester Alumni Scholarship Association’s 5K Run-Walk at 8 a.m., opening ceremonies at noon on the Diley Ridge Stage in the center of downtown, the Peggy Wood Scholarship Pageant and crowning of Miss, Junior Miss, Little Miss and Tiny Miss Canal Winchester at the old high school, and free midway rides from noon to 5 p.m. pm, compliments of Jeff Wyler Chevrolet of Canal Winchester.

On Aug. 31, visitors will enjoy free car show admission, sponsored by the Bob McDorman Automotive Museum. This year’s cruise-in will feature more than 40 awards.  Preregister your car or register at the show.


Festivities wrap up Sept. 1 and will include the parade sponsored by Waste Management at 1 pm. The  parade grand marshal will be Bob Wood, a long time resident of Canal Winchester, and supporter and sponsor of the Miss Canal Winchester Pageant for many years.
