The City of Canal Winchester is preparing for a grand opening of McGill Park on Wednesday, July 27. Members of the public are invited to join staff for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the park, located at 6724 Lithopolis-Winchester Road, to commemorate the completion of Phase I construction. The ceremony will begin at 10 AM.
The City began Phase I construction of the 84-acre park in 2020. Since then, the open land has been transformed into soccer fields, a nature themed playground, walking trails, a shelter house, and more.
The grand opening will allow residents to access everything except the soccer fields, which require additional growing time to establish durability. The fields are expected to be playable in spring 2023.
“This park has been a long time in the making, and we can’t wait to see residents using it,” says Mayor Mike Ebert. “It’s something the community will be able to use for years and years to come, and will bring visitors in from all across Ohio. We’re really putting ourselves on the map with this development.”
Future phases of McGill Park will add more attractions including baseball fields, a dog park, a three-season shelter house, and an event center. Phase II construction is expected to begin next year.
Following the grand opening, McGill Park will be open daily from 6 AM until dusk. All visitors are subject to follow the park rules, which can be found on the city’s website.
