Loving Care Hospice will kick off “Crystal Hearts,” a new year-long fund-raiser, on March 7 at Deer Creek Resort near Mount Sterling.

For participants, the reward for their year-long commitment is the “Crystal Hearts Ball,” a night of dinner and dancing that will take place in March 2009.

Groups of all kinds can sign up at any time to participate. They begin by reser-ving an eight-person $200 table for next year’s ball. Then they spend the next year raising money, in any way they see fit, to benefit Loving Care Hospice, which provides services to patients and their families regardless of their ability to pay.

“This way, instead of being hit up for a silent auction, a live auction and raffles all in one night, people who want to help Hospice can do it on their own time, bit by bit, over the course of a year,” said Karla Redding, Loving Care’s assistant director. “Then, at the end, the ball becomes just about having a fun evening.”

Redding said she envisions golf buddies, card clubs, businesses, churches, school groups, and families banding together to raise money for Crystal Hearts.

“We hope to have 25 to 30 tables’ worth of groups involved in the fundraiser,” Redding said. “Whoever raises the most money will get a Crystal Heart award to display for a year.”

The Crystal Hearts kickoff will start with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. March 7 followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Groups interested in participating in the year-long program do not need to attend the kickoff.
