Cruisers clinch share of OCC football title

The Groveport Madison Cruiser football team won at least a share of the Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division championship with its 49-0 victory over Big Walnut on Oct. 25. The Cruisers will earn the title outright with a win over New Albany on Nov. 1. Following the New Albany game, the Cruisers will find out who their opponent will be in the state playoff tournament. The Cruisers’ victorious ascent to the title comes two years after the squad suffered through on 0-10 season. “There is a lot to be proud of with this football team,” said Groveport Madison Athletic Director Steve Petros. “This is a group of players and coaches who have experienced the lowest of lows but stuck together, kept working and are now experiencing a high level of success. In today’s current culture of athletes quitting or transferring, this group stuck together and worked their way into a championship team. On top of the success on the field, their classroom performance has been just as impressive. They are the ultimate example of why it’s great to be a Cruiser!” Watch for an article recapping the Cruisers’ championship football season in the Nov. 17 edition of the Southeast Messenger.
