On Aug. 3, the Madison County commissioners signed a proclamation declaring August as Child Support Awareness Month.

Madison County’s Child Support Enforcement Agency collected more than $4 million in child support payments last year. They are on pace to do the same this year, having collected $2.1 million as of June 30.

“Our child support unit is small but mighty,” said Chrissy Boyd, Madison County child support administrator.

The unit is staffed by five full-time employees, one part-time employee, and one shared clerical worker. Three case managers split a caseload of approximately 1,600.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) Office of Child Support collects and distributes nearly $2 billion annually to more than one million Ohio children. The program is administered by 88 county child support enforcement agencies, like the one in Madison County, which also locate noncustodial parents, establish legal paternity, establish child and medical support orders, and enforce support orders.

“In partnership with county agencies, we are committed to helping families access community resources that can help them overcome barriers to paying child support,” said ODJFS Director Matt Damschroder. “We strongly encourage parents to establish legal paternity as soon as possible after their child’s birth. Doing so has many long-term benefits for both the parents and the child.”
