Cougars sprint for the finish line

Westland High School senior Fatouma Shable approaches the finish line at the 48th annual Erin L. Nance Fall Distance Classic. The event was held Oct. 1 at the London Country Club and goes up and down a number of hills as it winds through the 5K course. Shable competed in the varsity girls class and has been running cross country for about three months. She finished the course with a time of 30:27.3.

Emhoff who was the Cougars’ top finisher in the 19th spot out of 75 runners with a time of 18:23.8. Emhoff is followed by senior Andrew Ackerman and freshman Nate Jacobs. Westland placed seventh in the boys varsity team competition.
