The West Jefferson Ox Roast will take place Sept. 2-4. The following contests are planned.
• Queen’s Pageant—The queen contest will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 2 on the main stage at the Ox Roast grounds. The Little Miss and Junior Miss are set for Sept. 2 at 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively. The Sweetheart contest is on Sept. 4 after the Oxy Baby king and queen contest.
Miss: Must be entering grades 9-12, live in Madison County, wear a formal gown and be available to participate in upcoming parades, luncheons and events.
Junior Miss: Must be entering grades 6-8, live in Madison County, and wear a dressy dress. No formals.
Little Miss: Must be entering grades 3-5, live in Madison County, and wear a dressy dress.
Sweetheart: Must be ages 5-7, live in Madison County, and wear a dressy dress.
All participants receive a certificate. Winners receive a crown, trophy, flowers and sash.

• Baby Contest—The Oxy Baby contest is set for 11 a.m. Sept. 4. Categories are 0-6 months, 7-12 months, 13-18 months, and 19-24 months. Boys and girls are judged separately.
The entry fee is $10. A copy of a hospital record or birth certificate are required. Each participant receives a certificate. Winners receive other prizes.

• Oxy Tot—Girls ages 25 months to 4 years old are eligible for this contest. The entrant who receives the most points wins. Points are 10 cents each.
Entrants must decorate a container in any manner they desire and place them in an establishment of their choice. A festival representative will keep tally of points. The container must be turned in at the Ox Box on the festival grounds by 6 p.m. Sept. 2.
Each participant receives a certificate and a bag of goodies. The winner receives a crown, trophy, flowers and sash. The winner will be announced after the Sweetheart contest on Sept. 4.
