Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.
Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every third Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. Cholesterol testing is available for $5 per test. Research on old Harrisburg church
The Harrisburg Pilgrim Holiness Church is conducting research on the old Grace Episcopal United Brethren Church in Harrisburg, but they need help.
Those who have information on the church history or know names of former pastors, can send information to Pastor Rick Smith PO Box 254, Orient, 43146 or e-mail the information to r-d-s@sbcglobal.net. Smith is also looking for old photos of the church.
MOPS at Cypress Wesleyan

New "Haulers Hotline"
SWACO customers can get the latest on SWACO’s hours of operation by dialing 801-6403. The SWACO "Haulers’ Hotline" is designed to keep those who use SWACO’s Franklin County Landfill, The SWACO Transfer Stations, and the SWACO Contracted Composting Sites up to date on any changes in service.
SWACO’s Franklin County Landfill is open from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The landfill is closed many holidays. Tose interested can call the "Haulers’ Hotline" to get the latest information on holiday closings.
"Wising Up" with Cypress Wesleyan
Cypress Wesleyan Church, 377 Alton Darby Creek Road in Galloway, will host "Wising Up, Wherever Life Happens," a woman’s study on the book of Proverbs with Beth Moore on Sundays, Jan. 11 – March 29, from 6-8 p.m.in the Fireside Room, lower level, building B – north entrance. Catholic Social Services’ Senior Program has applications for the Home Energy Assistance program, Percentage of Income payment plan and AT&T Life Line. These programs one-time financial assistance or ongoing financial assistance to low-income seniors and low-income disabled individuals. Immunization clinics
The Franklin County Board of Health will offer an immunization clinic on Jan. 22 at the Jackson Township Administration office, 3756 Hoover Road, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Adult immunization prices vary. LTOB drama
The Little Theatre off Broadway presents "Wait Until Dark, a drama by Frederick Knott.
Where were you when the lights went out? Susy Hendrix, a blind Greenwich Village housewife becomes the target of three men who seek heroin that has been hidden inside a doll. Her husband Sam unwittingly transported the doll as a favor for a woman who has since been murdered. Darkness becomes Susy’s only friend as she fends off three desperate thugs who will stop at nothing to retrieve their prize.
The show runs on weekends from Jan. 9 through Jan. 31. Tickets are $10 for general admission; students and senior citizen tickets are $8.

NDCC career classes
Are you looking for a new job? Get the skills and the support you need at New Directions Career Center (NDCC), a non-profit, United Way agency. Two classes, facilitated by licensed career counselors, are being offered during the month of January.
The first is New Directions. This class is designed especially for woman who are changing careers or re-entering the work force. Participants learn about themselves as they refine their abilities to overcome barriers to professional success. They also learn practical skills such as networking, interviewing, resume writing and much more. The four week program will be held from Jan. 12 through Feb. 6. Classes are held, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The second class is Creating Career Options. This class is for the professional who is seeking employment or a career change. Participants learn through assessment how to find a job that’s a good fit as well as how to research optimal career options. This class is held on Jan. 26, 28 and 31. Classes are held on Monday and Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
NDCC assists individuals regardless of their ability to pay. Graduates of NDCC programs are eligible to enroll in placement services at no charge.

Military prayer service
The Alkire Road Church of Christ, 2779 Alkire Road in Grove City, will hold a military prayer service on Jan. 4 at 5 p.m. Families of those in the service are encouraged to attend. For more information, contact the church at 875-1028.
SWACO grant for GC
The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) has announced grants totaling $45,928.36 to eight communities, organizations, and schools in Franklin County. The grants, designed to promote recycling and waste reduction, feature everything from waste free school lunches to the expansion a college campus-wide recycling program.
The city of Grove City will receive just over $12,000 to help fund its Keep Grove City Beautiful and Great America Cleanup activities.
Communities, schools and non profits who receive grants from SWACO are required to provide 25 percent financial or in-kind match.

New trash contract
The city of Grove City has renewed a favorable trash collection contract for city residents.
Rising fuel and transportation costs have led to an increase in next year’s trash collection rates. Effective Jan. 1 the monthly rate will increase from $11.68 to $13.21. The last rate increase was in 2005.
The new rate remains lower than most central Ohio communities. Many local suburbs pay $14 or more per month. Increase notices will be mailed in early January.

The Art Concern
Grove City council members are proud to sponsor The Art Concern, which features artists throughout Grove City and central Ohio. From Jan. 10 through Feb. 27, Columbus College of Art and Design graduate, Meghan Sowers Richardson’s work will be featured.
Richardson’s exhibit displays oil landscapes and pastels.
The exhibit is located in City Hall, 4035 Broadway, in the Grove City Town Center. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. orthose interested can make an appointment by calling Ray Kline at 875-2423.
Auditions at LTOB
The Little Theatre Off Broadway will hold auditons for "Dearly Departed" by David Bottrell and Jesse Jones.
Auditions will take place at 7 p.m., Jan. 11 and 12 at the theater on Broadway in Grove City. The show calls for six adult women, ages 20 through 80, and five adult men, ages 20 through 80. Auditions will consist of cold reads from the provided script. Director Mark Sartor will have all characters perform American Southern accents. Acting resumes and photos are helpful but not necessary.
