Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.

Screenings at Evans

Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every third Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. Cholesterol testing is available for $5 per test. GCHS class of 1989

Research on old Harrisburg church

The Harrisburg Pilgrim Holiness Church is conducting research on the old Grace Episcopal United Brethren Church in Harrisburg, but they need help.
Those who have information on the church history or know names of former pastors, can send information to Pastor Rick Smith PO Box 254, Orient, 43146 or e-mail the information to r-d-s@sbcglobal.net. Smith is also looking for old photos of the church.

MOPS at Cypress Wesleyan

Holiday performances at UMC

The Grove City United Methodist Church is preparing for the holidays with music.
On Dec. 7 the chancel choir will be singing the Christmas cantata at both the 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship service. Also the children’s chime choir will perform at 6:30 p.m. On Dec. 14 at the 9:20 and 11 a.m. contemporary services, the praise band and chorus will present "Have No Fear."

Organ recital features GC women

The St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4686 East Walnut St. in Westerville, will host an organ recital on Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. Sara Montgomery, of the Grove City United Methodist Church will perform.
The concert will include works by Daquin, Corelli, Sumsion, Blumental and Christmas hymns. Kathy Clymer, traditional music director at the Grove City United Methodist Church, will also be singing a solo.

New "Haulers Hotline"

SWACO customers can get the latest on SWACO’s hours of operation by dialing 801-6403. The SWACO "Haulers’ Hotline" is designed to keep those who use SWACO’s Franklin County Landfill, The SWACO Transfer Stations, and the SWACO Contracted Composting Sites up to date on any changes in service.
SWACO’s Franklin County Landfill is open from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The landfill is closed many holidays. Tose interested can call the "Haulers’ Hotline" to get the latest information on holiday closings.

Blue Christmas at Trinity

For many people, Christmas is not a joyous time of year. It is a time of sadness or pain due to an emotional trauma, a loved one’s death, poor health, or some other reason. Trinity United Methodist Church, 4850 Haughn Road in Grove City, will offer a special service of healing and hope at 4 p.m. on Dec. 7. Everyone is welcome to attend this "Blue Christmas" service. Merry Mondays at Trinity

Trinity United Methodist Church, 4850 Haughn Road in Grove City, will host Merry Mondays in Advent for families with children ages 4-11 on Dec. 8 and 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will enjoy food, music crafts and story time. For more information, call the church office at 875-7298.

White Christmas
The Southwest Christian Ministerial Association will sponsor the White Christmas program for needy residents who live in Grove City, Harrisburg and Orient. 
Beginning Dec. 1, those who would like to receive a food box may call Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 875-3322, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Food boxes will be distributed at the school cafeteria on Dec. 22 between noon and 6 p.m. A picture ID and verification of current address is required when the food box is picked up.

Travel baseball field rentals

The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department rents baseball fields to youth travel organizations during the spring and summer seasons. Fields are available for 8 to 14-year-old league games. Interested coordinators must fill out a field rental packet, available at City Hall, 4035 Broadway, and return it no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 10. A field use lottery for 2009 is scheduled for Dec. 13.
More information about the lottery will be available at City Hall upon completion of the rental packet. For more information, contact the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department at 277-3050.

Greyhounds perform for holidays

The Grove City High School choirs and orchestras will perform a holiday musical performance at Capital University on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Mees Hall Auditorium.

"A Christmas Story"
Friends Worship center, 3030 Clime Road, will present "A Christmas Story" on Dec. 21 at 10:30 a.m. The play was written and directed by Scott Gorslene. All are invited.

Family Christmas Choir

Columbia Heights United Methodist Church, 775 Galloway Road, will host a Family Christmas Choir on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m. The chancel, youth and bell choirs will perform their holiday favorites.

Christmas tree sale and food drive
The Westland High School marching band and color guard has begun its annual christmas tree sale. The tree lot is located at Kroger, 5800 W. Broad St., in Galloway and will continue until trees are sold. Sale hours are Monday-Friday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m.
They are also having a canned food drive now through Dec. 19 to help fellow band parents in need. They will have a shopping cart for collection in the band room and at the christmas tree lot where students and others can drop off their donated food items. "Wising Up" with Cypress Wesleyan
Cypress Wesleyan Church, 377 Alton Darby Creek Road in Galloway, will host "Wising Up, Wherever Life Happens," a woman’s study on the book of Proverbs with Beth Moore on Sundays, Jan. 11 – March 29, from 6-8 p.m.in the Fireside Room, lower level, building B – north entrance. CLC information session

Candlelight service

The Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, 4747 Harrisburg Pike in Grove City, will host a community Christmas candlelight service on Dec. 21 at 6:30 p.m. Free desserts and drinks will follow the service. For more information, contact the church at 875-6221.

Clothes from Stepping Stone
The Grace Community Church, 2345 Demorest Road in Grove City, has established a kindness ministry called Stepping Stone. The group has received used clothing for men, women and children. There will be an open display of free clothing on Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call the church at 871-2348.

Red Kettle volunteers
Volunteers from Trinity United Methodist Church, 4850 Haughn Road, Grove City will be ringing the Salvation Army Red Kettle bell at the Krogers store at Hoover Road and State Route 665 in Grove City again this year. They will be available for donations all day and evening on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays beginning Dec. 5. For those who would like to volunteer to help with the campaign can call 875-7298.

Firefighters 4 Kids
The 2008 Firefighters 4 Kids Toy Drive has begun and area residents in need of assistance for toys can now call 3-1-1, the Columbus Call Center, for information on this year’s toy drive. 
The Columbus Call Center or 3-1-1 will provide residents with information, the types of documents needed to apply and the locations to apply for assistance. 
The call center provides access for area residents to request non-emergency city services. The information is available for Columbus residents, as well as city businesses and visitors.
