Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.

Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every third Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. Cholesterol testing is available for $5 per test. GCHS class of 1989

Research on old Harrisburg church
The Harrisburg Pilgrim Holiness Church is conducting research on the old Grace Episcopal United Brethren Church in Harrisburg, but they need help.
Those who have information on the church history or know names of former pastors, can send information to Pastor Rick Smith PO Box 254, Orient, 43146 or e-mail the information to r-d-s@sbcglobal.net. Smith is also looking for old photos of the church.

MOPS at Cypress Wesleyan

Lions host tailgate party

The Grove City Noon Lions will hold their 13th annual OSU/Michigan tailgate party on Nov. 21 from 6-10 p.m. The event will be held at St. Charles Preparatory School Atrium, 2010 East Broad St. in Columbus. Lasagna dinner

The Women’s Civic Club in Grove City will host a lasagna dinner and silent auction on Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Adults eat for $7 and children for $4. Music will be provided by the Grove City band’s string quartet. For tickets, contact Judy Hannigan at 875-9499.

Church celebrates 150 years

The public is invited to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the First Presbyterian Church of Grove City on Nov. 9. Worship services, including a special message by Reverend Robert Tolar, will be held at 8:30 and 11 a.m.  
Following worship is an ox roast. A short program, including past ministers and local dignitaries, will follow dinner. The public is encouraged to write and share a short paragraph of church-related memories.

Military service at Trinity

All military veterans and their families are invited to attend a special worship service in their honor on Nov. 9. The service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 4850 Haughn Road in Grove City at 10:30 a.m. Following the service, light refreshments will be provided. Play at LTOB
The Little Theatre Off Broadway is set to perform "Blithe Spirit," by Noel Coward and directed by Bob Weesner.
A novelist invites an eccentric medium into his home in order to learn the language of the occult. Little does he or his wife realize that the séance will summon back his deceased first wife, who only he can see.
Performances run on weekends through Nov. 22. Tickets are $10; students and senior citizens pay $8.

Career classes at NDCC

New Directions Career Center (NDCC), a non-profit, United Way agency, offers citizens assistance with professional transitions. November classes are filling up fast.   
NDCC assists individuals regardless of their ability to pay. Bring in this newspaper announcement and attend a class for $5. Scholarship programs are also available.

Bean dinner at Harrisburg VFW

The Harrisburg VFW Post 11208 will host a bean dinner on Nov. 15 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the VFW, 1010 High St. in Harrisburg. Chamber Singers perform

The Grove City Chamber Singers will perform a fall concert "Let There Be Music" on Nov. 16 at the Grove City United Methodist Church at 3:30 p.m. Doors open at 3 p.m. The concert is free to the public and will feature a piece by local composer Michael G. Martin.

Revival at GCCOG
The Grove City Church of God, 4325 Harrisburg Pike, will hold a Fresh Fire Revival on Nov. 16 at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The event will also be held Nov. 17-19 at 7 p.m. For additional information, log onto www.gccog.org.

PTA special education awareness night

The South-Western City School District Council of PTAs, along with the South-Western City School District Special Education Department, will present, the 2008 Parents’ Resource Fair on Nov. 18 at Holt Crossing Intermediate School, 2706 Holt Road in Grove City. 
The program is open to the public and free of charge.  It runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The PTA has invited many different groups to attend the evening vendor’s fair. This is an opportunity to gather information and talk to the different organizations in attendance. Attendees are encouraged to bring children with them. 
The Columbus Zoo will be on hand from 7:15 to 8 p.m. with some animals that the children will be encouraged to pet.

New Directions workshop

New Directions Career Center (NDCC), a non-profit, United Way agency, is offering a free workshop to those who are unemployed or seeking a career transition. Entitled, Achieving Financial Self-Sufficiency: How to Meet Financial Goals Through Effective Interviewing and Salary Negotiation Strategies, the two hour session will provide participants with an opportunity to learn how to overcome objections and effectively present skills as well as abilities to potential employers. Expert advice on salary negotiation will also be provided.  
The workshop, scheduled for Nov. 19 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., is open to the general public at no charge, but registration is required. It will be held at 199 E. Rich St. in downtown Columbus. To register, or for more information, call 849-0028, extension 100.   

City needs referees
The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department is seeking referees for the winter 2009 youth basketball season.
The season begins Jan. 10 and runs through Mar. 14; games are played on Saturdays. Leagues for children in grades three and above include a post-season tournament.
Two meetings will be held for interested applicants at 7 p.m. on Nov. 17 and Nov. 19 at City Hall. Candidates need only attend one of these mandatory meetings.

Veteran’s Day ceremony

The American Legion Post in Grove City will hold its annual Veteran’s Day ceremony on Nov. 11 outside of City Hall on Broadway. The program will begin at 11 a.m. and will feature several speakers. Thanksgiving Kickoff Classic

The Abundant Life Assembly of God will host its second annual Thanksgiving Kickoff Classic on Nov. 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the church, 4747 Harrisburg Pike. The classic will offer a free community Thanksgiving dinner, football highlights and prizes. There will also be a cornhole tournament before the event at 5 p.m. Call 499-5803 to register a team. LTOB audition

Grove City’s Little Theatre off Broadway will hold auditions for Rashomon on Nov. 17 and Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. both nights, at the Grove City Christian Child Care Center at 2996 Columbus St. in Grove City.
The LTOB will perform Rashomon at the regional American Association of Community Theaters Festival, in Columbus Feb. 20 – 22.
Director Lisa Napier-Garcia calls for six adult men and three adult women of various ages. Participants should prepare a one to two minute dramatic monologue, and also will read from the provided script. Participants should bring calendar conflicts to the audition. Photos and acting resumes also are welcome.

Free recruiting seminar
Former Buckeye football recruiter and current ESPN analyst, Bill Conley, will host a free recruiting basics seminar at Franklin Heights High School from 7-9 p.m. on Nov. 17.
Conley served as an assistant coach at The Ohio State University for 17 years, working under Earle Bruce, John Cooper and Jim Tressel. At the seminar, which will be a two-hour program for athletes and coaches of all sports and parents/guardians and school administrators, he will share information about the college recruiting process.
