Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.
Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every third Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. Cholesterol testing is available for $5 per test. Research on old Harrisburg church
The Harrisburg Pilgrim Holiness Church is conducting research on the old Grace Episcopal United Brethren Church in Harrisburg, but they need help.

Rotary Cruise and Ride
The Rotary Club of Grove City will sponsor the 11th annual Cruise and Ride in Grove City’s Historic Town Center. The car show is noon to 6 p.m. on Sept. 27.
More than 250 classic cars and motorcycles are expected to register for the 2008 edition of the event. Registration is noon to 2 p.m. the day of the show. There is a $10 registration fee per show vehicle. Judging begins at 3 p.m. Awards will be distributed at 6 p.m. This year includes a number of door prizes given away throughout the show, as well as gas gift card raffles.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the programs and activities of the Rotary Club of Grove City, including student scholarships, Rotary Lake at Fryer Park, and other local and international projects.

Richard PTA craft sale
The Richard Avenue Elementary PTA is hosting a holiday craft fair on Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon. In addition to the craft sale, there will be a Secret Santa Shop for the kids, make-and-takes, pictures with Santa, and food.
Crafters should reserve a space for this event by contacting Lisa at racraftfair@sbcglobal.net. The cost to reserve a six foot space is $15 and the crafter will need to supply their own table. Payment is required before the event.
The school is located at 3646 Richard Ave. in Grove City. Proceeds from the space rentals will support Richard Avenue Elementary families in need during the holidays.
Green Lawn seeking volunteers
Central Ohioans looking for a community project for Make A Difference Day on Oct. 25 can perform volunteer service at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Ave.
A variety of tasks are available for individuals and groups who will be assisting the ground crew in preparing the area’s largest cemetery for winter. Many of the tasks involve fall landscaping chores.

Wellness clinic in Urbancrest
The Franklin County Board of Health will hold a senior wellness clinic on Sept. 30 at the Southwest Community Center, 3500 First Ave. in Urbancrest from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The clinic will be available for adults age 50 and older. Health assessments and screenings are available, along with education concerning heart disease, diabetes and other health issues. There is no charge to see the nurse, though donations will be accepted.

Crafters wanted
The Franklin Heights High School band boosters will hold its annual Holiday Crafts Bazaar on Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Franklin Heights High School, 1001 Demorest Road in Columbus.

The craft bazaar is an annual fund raiser for the school’s band and is sponsored by the band boosters. All proceeds from the event will benefit the marching band.
Car seat inspection
Does your child’s car seat fit correctly in your vehicle? Are your children in the correct type of seat and facing the right way for their height, weight and age? Is the harness system snug enough to prevent injury? Make sure your child’s car seat is properly installed on Oct. 18 at a free car seat safety check outside the Grove City YMCA.
Conducted by Columbus Public Health, the car seat safety inspection will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in front of the Grove City YMCA, 3600 Discovery Dr.
Those performing the safety checks are certified child passenger safety technicians.
"Four out of five car seats are not used correctly," says Brandie Keys with Columbus Public Health. "This is why we encourage parents, grandparents and caregivers to take advantage of this free inspection."
The safety check, co-sponsored by the MOMS Club of Grove City and Chick-Fil-A will be held in conjunction with the annual touch-a-truck event held every year at the Grove City, YMCA.

Commercial Point fish fry
The Commercial Point Men’s Club will hold a fish fry the first and third Friday of every month through the end of May. Hours are 5 to 8 p.m. at the Commercial Point Community Center.
LTOB musical
The Little Theatre Off Broadway will present "The Sound of Music" directed by Lisa Napier-Garcia.
The classic musical about governess Maria and the singing von Trapp family, set in Austria as the clouds of World War II gather.

Story time at Harrisburg Library
The Harrisburg Library will hold a story time for children ages 3-5 beginning Sept. 27 and continuing through Oct. 22.

Cornhole and Buckeyes
The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a double-elimination cornhole tournament on Oct. 4 from 5 to 11 p.m. at Beulah Park, 3811 Southwest Blvd.
In addition to cornhole, the Ohio State and Wisconsin football game will be broadcast on a 30 foot inflatable screen. Food and beverages will be sold.
Park gates are scheduled to open at 5 p.m. and contestants will be given a half hour to practice. The tournament will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. with the OSU game set to air at 8 p.m.
Tournament participants must pre-register their team of two for $40 at City Hall, 4035 Broadway, by Sept. 30. Those interested in attending the tailgate, but not the tournament, need not pre-register; a $5 donation will be collected at the door, parking is $5 per vehicle. Parental consent forms are required for those who are under 18 years old, and can also be picked up at City Hall.

K-9 Carnival
Help the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department wrap up the dog days of summer at its annual K-9 Carnival from 1-4 p.m. on Sept. 28 at Fryer Park, 3899 Orders Road.
Join dog rescues, vets and vendors as well as other dog enthusiasts for an afternoon of fun for both man and his best friend.
Attendees will have the opportunity to visit area rescue and adoption groups, purchase pet care merchandise and enjoy on-site entertainment. Additionally, a dog wash station and concessions will be offered as fund raisers for Boy Scout Troop 136 and the Grove City Sertoma Club.
A temporary, fenced off-leash area, including a dog-friendly pond, will be available for all well-socialized and vaccinated dogs; an additional area will be designated for dogs that are 25 pounds or less. All dogs must be restrained when outside of the designated off-leash area.

Walking for Down syndrome
The Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio will sponsor this year’s seventh annual Buddy Walk at the Crew Stadium.
The one-mile walk will take place Sept. 28 starting at 10 a.m. The goal of the Buddy Walk is to promote understanding and acceptance of all people with Down syndrome. Last year, the event raised over $200,000.

Casting call for Nutcracker commercials

Water Garden Tour
The Keep Grove City Beautiful Committee presents the inaugural Twilight on the Water Garden Tour on Sept. 28 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Participants can see some of Grove City’s finest water gardens featuring water-themed elements such as ponds, fountains and waterfalls. Enjoy a variety of exotic koi, aquatic plants and water lilies. Birds, butterflies, fish and frogs will enhance this outdoor adventure.
