Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.
Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every third Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. Cholesterol testing is available for $5 per test. Research on old Harrisburg church
The Harrisburg Pilgrim Holiness Church is conducting research on the old Grace Episcopal United Brethren Church in Harrisburg, but they need help.

GAG volunteer classes
The Gardens at Gantz Farm is currently accepting applications for anyone interested in becoming a garden volunteer. The opportunities are many and varied for beginner or advanced gardeners, or even those with no gardening experience at all. Classes will be on Thursday evenings and will be held at the Gantz Farmhouse, 2255 Home Road in Grove City at 7 p.m. The classes will give a history of the Gantz family, the development of the gardens, and an overview of the various theme gardens on the property. Playgroup in GC
Through the Parks and Recreation Department, the city of Grove City operates an early childhood program for 2 year-olds and their parents. Children and parents enjoy preschool classroom experiences and activities including free play, singing, stories and art during this hour.
Members of the Playgroup staff are established professionals with varied backgrounds in early childhood development. Classrooms offer a wide range of physical and social experiences.
Playgroup operates September through May with one-hour classes on Friday morning from 9:15-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:30 a.m. The program is held in Gantz Barn located in Gantz Park at 2255 Home Road. Registration for the 2008-2009 school year is currently open. Children must be 2 years old by Sept. 30 in order to participate.

The West High School class of 1964 is having their 45th class reunion Oct. 3-4. Friday evening, attendees will gather at Magly Field for the West Homecoming Game followed by a casual time from 9-11 p.m. at O’Charlie’s at I-270 and Georgesville Road. Cougar cruise-in
The Westland High School band boosters will be hosting a cruise-in on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will benefit the marching band.
Registration will begin at 11 a.m. for $10. Preregistration is $7 until Sept 1. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 50 cars registered. Plenty of food, door prizes, raffles and music will be available.

Rotary Cruise and Ride
The Rotary Club of Grove City will sponsor the 11th annual Cruise and Ride in Grove City’s Historic Town Center. The car show is noon to 6 p.m. on Sept. 27.
More than 250 classic cars and motorcycles are expected to register for the 2008 edition of the event. Registration is noon to 2 p.m. the day of the show. There is a $10 registration fee per show vehicle. Judging begins at 3 p.m. Awards will be distributed at 6 p.m. This year includes a number of door prizes given away throughout the show, as well as gas gift card raffles.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the programs and activities of the Rotary Club of Grove City, including student scholarships, Rotary Lake at Fryer Park, and other local and international projects.

Nazarene re-sale

Richard PTA craft sale
The Richard Avenue Elementary PTA is hosting a holiday craft fair on Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon. In addition to the craft sale, there will be a Secret Santa Shop for the kids, make-and-takes, pictures with Santa, and food.
Crafters should reserve a space for this event by contacting Lisa at racraftfair@sbcglobal.net. The cost to reserve a six foot space is $15 and the crafter will need to supply their own table. Payment is required before the event.
The school is located at 3646 Richard Ave. in Grove City. Proceeds from the space rentals will support Richard Avenue Elementary families in need during the holidays.
Grace celebrates anniversary
Grace of God Lutheran Church, located at 1000 Demorest Road, will celebrate its fifth anniversary on Sept. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. St. Timothy, Bethlehem, and Our Savior Lutheran churches merged in the past to become Grace of God Lutheran Church. Worship service begins at 9:30 a.m. and many activities will follow.
Girls Club golf

Green Lawn seeking volunteers
Central Ohioans looking for a community project for Make A Difference Day on Oct. 25 can perform volunteer service at Green Lawn Cemetery, 1000 Greenlawn Ave.
A variety of tasks are available for individuals and groups who will be assisting the ground crew in preparing the area’s largest cemetery for winter. Many of the tasks involve fall landscaping chores.

Wellness clinic at Evans
The Franklin County Board of Health will hold a senior wellness clinic on Sept. 3 at the Evans Senior Center, 4330 Dudley Ave. in Grove City, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. One will also be offered on Sept. 30 at the Southwest Community Center, 3500 First Ave. in Urbancrest from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The clinic will be available for adults age 50 and older. Health assessments and screenings are available, along with education concerning heart disease, diabetes and other health issues. There is no charge to see the nurse, though donations will be accepted.

Copper theft seminar
The Southwest Christian Ministerial Association, in cooperation with the Grove City Division of Police, will host a free seminar at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 3220 Columbus St. in Grove City on Sept. 16 from 8-10:30 a.m.
The seminar will deal with church safety and security and the rising number of copper thefts. The speaker will be Special FBI Agent Harry Trombitus, who is an expert on the subject. For additional information or to RSVP, call the church at 875-2314.
Crafters wanted
The Franklin Heights High School band boosters will hold its annual Holiday Crafts Bazaar on Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Franklin Heights High School, 1001 Demorest Road in Columbus.

Car seat inspection
Does your child’s car seat fit correctly in your vehicle? Are your children in the correct type of seat and facing the right way for their height, weight and age? Is the harness system snug enough to prevent injury? Make sure your child’s car seat is properly installed on Oct. 18 at a free car seat safety check outside the Grove City YMCA.
Conducted by Columbus Public Health, the car seat safety inspection will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in front of the Grove City YMCA, 3600 Discovery Dr.
Those performing the safety checks are certified child passenger safety technicians.
"Four out of five car seats are not used correctly," says Brandie Keys with Columbus Public Health. "This is why we encourage parents, grandparents and caregivers to take advantage of this free inspection."
The safety check, co-sponsored by the MOMS Club of Grove City and Chick-Fil-A will be held in conjunction with the annual touch-a-truck event held every year at the Grove City, YMCA.

Commercial Point fish fry
The Commercial Point Men’s Club will begin a fish fry the first and third Friday of every month through the end of May. The first fish fry will take place Sept. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Commercial Point Community Center.
Soggy Dog Swim
The Big Splash, 2831 Southwest Blvd., is hosting its first Soggy Dog Swim on Sept. 7 for area dogs and their owners to enjoy a day of swimming, refreshments and philanthropy.
The weekend after the Big Splash is closed for the season, the pool will be open from noon-4 p.m. for a supervised afternoon of swimming – strictly for dogs. Admission is $2 per dog and humans will be admitted for free. One pet will be permitted per person.
All breeds and sizes are welcome as long as the animal is sociable with people and other dogs. Please note, no leashes will be permitted in the pool.

Green Farm Heritage Days
The annual Green’s Farm Heritage Days festival will take place Sept. 6-7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The festival is located in Orient at 10530 Thrailkill Road, just off Route 762 between Commercial Point and Orient. Visitors will see the restored village and antique crafts and tractors.
