Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.
Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every third Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. Cholesterol testing is available for $5 per test. Harrisburg fish fry
The Sherman Lodge 470 in Harrisburg started its annual fish fry. The event will run every Saturday, except for holiday weekends, until the last weekend in August from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Research on old Harrisburg church
The Harrisburg Pilgrim Holiness Church is conducting research on the old Grace Episcopal United Brethren Church in Harrisburg, but they need help.

Football camp for autism
Ohio Auto Delivery has added to the annual golf tournament to benefit the Intensive Behavioral Intervention Program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This year’s event will now span over two days and include an NFL football camp designed to help children with autism enhance their football skills.
The camp will be held on Sept. 7 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Grove City High School. The camp is open to all children afflicted with autism, ages 5 and up. The deadline to register is Aug. 25.

GAG volunteer classes
The Gardens at Gantz Farm is currently accepting applications for anyone interested in becoming a garden volunteer. The opportunities are many and varied for beginner or advanced gardeners, or even those with no gardening experience at all. Classes will be on Thursday evenings and will be held at the Gantz Farmhouse, 2255 Home Road in Grove City at 7 p.m. The classes will give a history of the Gantz family, the development of the gardens, and an overview of the various theme gardens on the property. Playgroup in GC
Through the Parks and Recreation Department, the city of Grove City operates an early childhood program for 2 year-olds and their parents. Children and parents enjoy preschool classroom experiences and activities including free play, singing, stories and art during this hour.
Members of the Playgroup staff are established professionals with varied backgrounds in early childhood development. Classrooms offer a wide range of physical and social experiences.
Playgroup operates September through May with one-hour classes on Friday morning from 9:15-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:30 a.m. The program is held in Gantz Barn located in Gantz Park at 2255 Home Road. Registration for the 2008-2009 school year is currently open. Children must be 2 years old by Sept. 30 in order to participate.

Preschool registration
The Grove City Preschool is now registering for the 2008/09 school year that begins in September. The school is located at 4227 Broadway in the First Presbyterian Church. West High class of 1964
The West High School class of 1964 is having their 45th class reunion Oct. 3-4. Friday evening, attendees will gather at Magly Field for the West Homecoming Game followed by a casual time from 9-11 p.m. at O’Charlie’s at I-270 and Georgesville Road. Cougar cruise-in
The Westland High School band boosters will be hosting a cruise-in on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will benefit the marching band.
Registration will begin at 11 a.m. for $10. Preregistration is $7 until Sept 1. Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 50 cars registered. Plenty of food, door prizes, raffles and music will be available.

Buckeye Woods social
The Buckeye Woods Elementary Parent Teacher Association will sponsor an ice cream social on Aug. 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the school. Students and parents are encouraged to come and meet their new teacher, principal and see the classroom.
2008 Labor Day Telethon
American Legion Post 532, 1571 Demorest Road, will host a remote location for the 2008 Labor Day Telethon. The festivities begin with a breakfast on Sept. 1 from 8-11 a.m. and continue until 8 p.m. There will also be a horseshoe tournament, children’s activities, hot food from the grill, a cornhole tournament, raffles, door prizes, and fund raising activities.
This event is open to the public. Money collected helps to send children with muscular dystrophy to summer camp and helps fund research efforts as well as assist in providing medical supplies and devices to the handicapped adults and children in central Ohio. All donations are tax deductible.
Rotary Cruise and Ride
The Rotary Club of Grove City will sponsor the 11th annual Cruise and Ride in Grove City’s Historic Town Center. The car show is noon to 6 p.m. on Sept. 27.
More than 250 classic cars and motorcycles are expected to register for the 2008 edition of the event. Registration is noon to 2 p.m. the day of the show. There is a $10 registration fee per show vehicle. Judging begins at 3 p.m. Awards will be distributed at 6 p.m. This year includes a number of door prizes given away throughout the show, as well as gas gift card raffles.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the programs and activities of the Rotary Club of Grove City, including student scholarships, Rotary Lake at Fryer Park, and other local and international projects.

Fill the Boot
Members of the Columbus Fire Fighters Union IAFF Local 67 and the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) are teaming up to fight muscular dystrophy and help "Jerry’s Kid’s." Firefighters throughout Columbus and Franklin County will be asking for donations during their annual "Fill-the-Boot" street solicitation on Aug. 28-30 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
For the past 55 years, members of the IAFF have been raising funds to help those with muscular dystrophy. Since then, firefighters nationwide have raised approximately $275 million for MDA’s lifesaving research and services.
Last year, Columbus firefighters exceeded their goal of $1 million by collecting $1,116,000 since 1991. Firefighters have been raising funds for MDA, assisting kids at summer camp, and attending the MDA Telethon for many years. Firefighters donate 100 percent of the monies raised to the MDA.
Nazarene re-sale
The Grove City Church of the Nazarene will hold a kids re-sale event on Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to noon. Gently used kids clothing, toys and baby items can be found at the re-sale. To participate as a seller or for more information call Sharese Read at 539-8272.
Fast pitchers wanted

Vintage baseball event
The Ohio Historical Society’s Ohio Village Muffins will host the Ohio Cup Vintage Base Ball Festival, a two-day festival featuring the largest gathering of vintage base ball clubs in the nation, Labor Day weekend, Aug. 30-31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ohio Historical Center and Ohio Village, I-71 and 17th Avenue in Columbus.
In the event, 23 men’s and women’s teams from seven states will play base ball on three fields on the grounds of the Ohio Historical Center and at the Ohio Village. The teams will use rules, costumes and equipment of 1860 for the games.
Admission per day to both the Ohio Cup and the center is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $4 for children (ages 6-12); free for Ohio Historical Society members and children ages five and under. Parking is $4 per vehicle and is free to members.
Richard PTA craft sale
The Richard Avenue Elementary PTA is hosting a holiday craft fair on Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to noon. In addition to the craft sale, there will be a Secret Santa Shop for the kids, make-and-takes, pictures with Santa, and food.
Crafters should reserve a space for this event by contacting Lisa at racraftfair@sbcglobal.net. The cost to reserve a six foot space is $15 and the crafter will need to supply their own table. Payment is required before the event.
The school is located at 3646 Richard Ave. in Grove City. Proceeds from the space rentals will support Richard Avenue Elementary families in need during the holidays.
Grace celebrates anniversary
Grace of God Lutheran Church, located at 1000 Demorest Road, will celebrate its fifth anniversary on Sept. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. St. Timothy, Bethlehem, and Our Savior Lutheran churches merged in the past to become Grace of God Lutheran Church. Worship service begins at 9:30 a.m. and many activities will follow.
Girls Club golf
The Grove City Girls Club will sponsor its seventh annual golf outing on Sept. 6 at Foxfire Golf Course. A shotgun start will begin at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $65 per person and that includes golf, the cart and dinner. For more information, contact Kim McCutchen at 875-7001.
