The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.
Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every third Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. Cholesterol testing is available for $5 per test. The Sherman Lodge 470 in Harrisburg started its annual fish fry. The event will run every Saturday, except for holiday weekends, until the last weekend in August from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Calling all artists
The Grove City Art Sidewalk Saturday Series invites any artist in any medium to demonstrate and sell their artwork on one or more Saturdays in one of the six locations in downtown Grove City.
The art displays are held in conjunction with Grove City’s Summer Music Program, and that spaces are available Saturdays from June 28 to Aug. 30.
Each Saturday a different band will liven up downtown Grove City. Artists will show their talents from Grove City Road to Columbus Street on Broadway. Performers are also invited to participate.

Community service day
The Grove City Church of the Nazarene is having a community service day called Revolutionary Love in Grove City on Aug. 16 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. The event is open to all Grove City residents. Participants can get involved with lawn care, home repair, buying back to school supplies or even baking. To sign up, call the church at 875-2551. Fun for single parents
The Single Parent Ministry at the Grove City Church of the Nazarene will hold a single parent fun day on Aug. 16 from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Nazarene food court. Single parents and their children are invited to attend. Lunch, games hair cuts and other events are planned. There will also be a free school supplies give-a-way. Research on old Harrisburg church
The Harrisburg Pilgrim Holiness Church is conducting research on the old Grace Episcopal United Brethren Church in Harrisburg, but they need help.

SWCS summer registration
The South-Western City School District will be holding summer registration for all elementary, intermediate, middle and high school students new to the district. Students must be registered prior to attending classes in any SWCS location.
Registration will run through Aug. 21 at Central Crossing High School, 4500 Big Run South Road in Grove City. Enrollment times are Mondays through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bilingual assistants will be available to assist parents/guardians who may have language challenges when enrolling their children in school.
Parents or legal guardians must present the following documents in order to enroll their child(ren) in district:
•Lease, deed, or two current utility bills (gas, water, home phone, electric) in the parent/guardian’s name.
•The student’s original birth certificate, hospital certificate, or baptismal certificate.
In the case of divorce or change of custody, a court document signed by a judge awarding custody to the parent/guardian who is registering the child.
•The student’s immunization records.
If the student is new to the United States, proof of a negative tuberculosis (TB) test.

Football camp for autism
Ohio Auto Delivery has added to the annual golf tournament to benefit the Intensive Behavioral Intervention Program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This year’s event will now span over two days and include an NFL football camp designed to help children with autism enhance their football skills.
The camp will be held on Sept. 7 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Grove City High School. The camp is open to all children afflicted with autism, ages 5 and up. The deadline to register is Aug. 25.

GAG volunteer classes
The Gardens at Gantz Farm is currently accepting applications for anyone interested in becoming a garden volunteer. The opportunities are many and varied for beginner or advanced gardeners, or even those with no gardening experience at all. Classes will be on Thursday evenings and will be held at the Gantz Farmhouse, 2255 Home Road in Grove City at 7 p.m. The classes will give a history of the Gantz family, the development of the gardens, and an overview of the various theme gardens on the property. Playgroup in GC
Through the Parks and Recreation Department, the city of Grove City operates an early childhood program for 2 year-olds and their parents. Children and parents enjoy preschool classroom experiences and activities including free play, singing, stories and art during this hour.
Members of the Playgroup staff are established professionals with varied backgrounds in early childhood development. Classrooms offer a wide range of physical and social experiences.
Playgroup operates September through May with one-hour classes on Friday morning from 9:15-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:30 a.m. The program is held in Gantz Barn located in Gantz Park at 2255 Home Road. Registration for the 2008-2009 school year is currently open. Children must be 2 years old by Sept. 30 in order to participate.

The Grove City Preschool is now registering for the 2008/09 school year that begins in September. The school is located at 4227 Broadway in the First Presbyterian Church. CCHS flea market
The Central Crossing Boys tennis team will hold their second annual flea market on Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the school’s parking lot.

The Comet’s football touchdown club is also participating in the fund raiser. Proceeds will benefit both athletic groups.
West High class of 1964
The West High School class of 1964 is having their 45th class reunion Oct. 3-4. Kickball for Alzheimer’s
Monterey Care Center will present the second annual Grove City kickball tournament on Aug. 16 at Fryer Park.
The cost to participate is $50 per team of 10 to 15 members. Teams must check in by 9:30 a.m. The tournament kicks off at 10 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Westland High School band boosters will be hosting a cruise-in on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will benefit the marching band.

The Central Crossing band will hold a car wash on Aug. 9 at Rick’s Broadway Wash and Lube, 3118 Broadway. The event will run all day. The Buckeye Woods Elementary Parent Teacher Association will sponsor an ice cream social on Aug. 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the school. Students and parents are encouraged to come and meet their new teacher, principal and see the classroom.
2008 Labor Day Telethon
American Legion Post 532, 1571 Demorest Road, will host a remote location for the 2008 Labor Day Telethon. The festivities begin with a breakfast on Sept. 1 from 8-11 a.m. and continue until 8 p.m. There will also be a horseshoe tournament, children’s activities, hot food from the grill, a cornhole tournament, raffles, door prizes, and fund raising activities.
This event is open to the public. Money collected helps to send children with muscular dystrophy to summer camp and helps fund research efforts as well as assist in providing medical supplies and devices to the handicapped adults and children in central Ohio. All donations are tax deductible.
