Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.
Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every third Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. Cholesterol testing is available for $5 per test. Mud volleyball tourney
The 23rd annual Mud Volleyball Tournament, benefiting the Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio, will take place on July 26 at Beulah Park, 3811 Southwest Blvd. in Grove City.
Gates open at 7 a.m. Play begins at 9 a.m. Players, referees and volunteers are needed. The cost to participate is $300 per a team of 8-12 players.

Summer reading program
The Harrisburg Library is registering for the summer reading program Catch the Reading Bug At Your Library.
The six week long program, beginning June 25 and ending July 30, is designed to challenge kids (ages 3-12) to sharpen their reading skills and reward them for their efforts. The program runs from 10 to 11 a.m.

Westland boosters golf outing
The Westland High School football boosters will hold its first annual golf outing on Aug. 8 at the Marysville Golf Club, 13683 State Route 38. Registration will be at 7:45 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 8:30 a.m. The registration fee is $65 per person, and includes golf, cart and lunch. Youth art contest
China Bell wants help with their new kid’s menu. If your child is between the ages of 3-12 and likes art, they can enter the Youth Art Contest for the chance to appear on China Bell’s newest kid’s menu.
Children are asked to draw and/or color a scene that depicts Grove City. Entries will be divided by age group for best artwork (ages 3-5, 6-9 and 10-12) and winners will be determined by a panel of local celebrity judges.
To enter, pick up an entry form in the restaurant or download it from www.chinabell.net. The deadline to enter is July 20. Winners will be announced on July 27.

Community carnival
St. John’s Lutheran Church, on Columbus Street in Grove City, will hold a community carnival called "Fun in the Son" on July 17 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The carnival will feature an inflatable jump house, inflatable obstacle course, inflatable basketball shoot, corn hole, ring toss, milk jug toss, cake walk, crafts, face painting, prizes, food and drink concessions and more. All games, inflatable, food, etc. require tickets. Tickets are 25 cents each. Most games and crafts take one or two tickets. The event will be held rain or shine.

FHHS band cruise-in
Franklin Heights High School band boosters will hold its annual Bands on the Run Cruise-in on Aug. 10 at Franklin Heights High School, 1001 Demorest Road.
Registration takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an $8 registration fee for the first vehicle and a $4 fee for each additional vehicle. The award ceremony begins at 4 p.m. The first 100 entries will receive dash plaques. All makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome.
The cruise-in will feature live entertainment, door prizes, a 50/50 raffles and plenty of food and refreshments. All proceeds will benefit the marching band.

Calling all artists
The Grove City Art Sidewalk Saturday Series invites any artist in any medium to demonstrate and sell their artwork on one or more Saturdays in one of the six locations in downtown Grove City.
The art displays are held in conjunction with Grove City’s Summer Music Program, and that spaces are available Saturdays from June 28 to Aug. 30.
Each Saturday a different band will liven up downtown Grove City. Artists will show their talents from Grove City Road to Columbus Street on Broadway. Performers are also invited to participate.

Assistance available to unemployed workers
New Directions Career Center (NDCC), a non-profit, United Way agency, is offering men and women the opportunity to jump-start their careers. Advanced Career Techniques (ACT), a three day program, held from 5-9 p.m. on July 28-30, will help participants discover search strategies that work in today’s fast-paced, competitive job market. The sessions also provide an opportunity for participants to further develop successful interviewing techniques. Placement services are available – free of charge – to graduates of the ACT class.

Drama at LTOB
Little Theatre Off Broadway will present "The Moving of Lilla Barton," a drama by John MacNicholas.
A newly widowed minister’s wife refuses to move out of the church-owned house designed and built by her and her late husband in order to make way for the new minister. An evil Yankee newspaper editor, a crass real estate peddler and a gaggle of Episcopal eccentrics cause trouble. A sympathetic bishop and senior warden try to help Lilla, but her resilience, vulnerability and courage are what makes this heart warming story soar.
The show runs on select dates on weekends from July 18 through Aug. 8. Tickets are $10; for students and seniors they are $8. The theatre is located at 3981 Broadway in Grove City.

Community service day
The Grove City Church of the Nazarene is having a community service day called Revolutionary Love in Grove City on Aug. 16 from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. The event is open to all Grove City residents. Lions host Duck Dash
The Grove City Noon Lions will host their first Duck and Dash on Aug. 2 from noon to 4 p.m.
The menu includes hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta salad, chips, a beverage and more for $5. The main event features a Duck Dash, where rubber ducks race. It is $10 to enter a duck in the race. The event will be held off State Route 665, about two miles south of Trapper John’s.

LTOB auditions
The Little Theatre Off Broadway will hold auditions for the musical "The Sounds of Music."
Audition dates are July 21 and July 22 at 7 p.m. at the theatre, 3891 Broadway in Grove City. The cast calls for four adult men, seven adult women, four boys, five girls and chorus members.
The show runs on weekends from Sept. 5 through Sept. 27.
