Book sale
The Harrisburg Library, 1036 High St., sponsors an ongoing book sale Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
Some books sell for $5 a bag, others range from $10 cents to $1. The library accepts donations of all books and movies but they ask you not send magazines. All items must be clean and in good condition.
All proceeds benefit the Harrisburg Library Association. Donations are tax deductible.
Library volunteers
Ellen Dawson, manager of the Harrisburg Library and Reading Center, is recruiting volunteers to help with library services during the fall and winter season.
The library is open Monday through Thursday from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. They ask volunteers to donate two hours per week to help maintain library services.

Adoptable cats at PetSmart
The Capital Area Humane Society will offer cats for adoption at PetSmart in Grove City from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first and third Sundays of each month.
Event dates at the PetSmart in Grove City, 1743 Stringtown Road, include: March 16, April 6, April 20, June 1 and June 22.
Screenings at Evans
Amity Care Home Health Services provides a nurse at the E.L. Evans Senior Center in Grove City to do free diabetic screening and blood pressure testing every third Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11 a.m. Cholesterol testing is available for $5 per test. Gantz scholarship
Gardens at Gantz volunteers are offering a scholarship of up to $1,000 to a student interested in studying landscaping, horticulture, sustainable living or conservation at an accredited college or university. They are also offering a $500 grant to an organization with a gardening related project.

St. Paddy’s spring dance
The Rotary Club of Grove City is hosting a spring dance, St. Paddy’s on the Green, at The Pinnacle Club on March 15.
The night includes dinner, dancing, St. Patrick’s Day-themed entertainment and raffles with prizes all night long. Tickets, are on sale now and are $125 per couple or $65 per person. The event will help the club further philanthropic causes locally, nationally and internationally.

Fish fry
St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 1600 N. Hague Ave., will have their ninth annual fish fry on the six Fridays during Lent from through March 14 at 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost for the dinner is: $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $3:50 for children 10 and under. Fish fry
The Knights of Columbus will sponsor their annual lenten fish fry Fridays through March 14, in the school hall from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The cost will be $4 for children under 12; $7 for seniors, $8 for adults, and $26 for a family (two adults and up to four children). Eat-in or drive-thru are available.
K of C 2898 Fish Fry
Knights of Columbus Council 2898, and the Bishop Ready Athletic Association, announce their Lenten Fish Fries, Fridays from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. through Lent, in the Bishop Ready High School cafeteria, 707 Salisbury Road.
Dinner is all-you-can eat fried and baked perch dinners, with your choice of two sides, a roll, drink and dessert.
Cost is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $4 for children.
GC jazz dinner
The Grove City High School will hold their annual jazz dinner and dance on March 25 at 7 p.m. at the Confluence Park Restaurant. For tickets or more information, call Kathie at 875-4100.
LTOB drama
The Little Theatre Off Broadway is set to put on 84 Charing Cross Road, a drama based on the novel by Helene Hanff. Stage adaptation by James Roose-Evans and directed by Cindy Jamison.
This play follows the correspondence between Helene, a struggling New York writer and Frank, her book supplier at an antiquarian London book shop. They share their passion for literature and their lives in a 20 year-long exchange letters.
The show runs on select days through March 22. Tickets are $10 for general admission; $8 for students and senior citizens.

Herb symposium
The Gardens at Gantz Farm presents their 10th annual Spring Garden Symposium on March 29 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Guest speakers for the day will be Anya Syrkin, an herbal medicine practitioner, wellness consultant and educator, who will teach participants about what herbs and plants hold promise for detoxification, anti-aging and wellness, and will help understand why cultures around the world have always incorporated culinary herbs as their first source of healing; former First Lady Of Ohio, Hope Taft, will be speaking on the Heritage Garden at the Governor’s Residence and about incorporating Ohio native plants into your own garden; Ron Demmy, district preserve manager at Stage’s Pond Nature Reserve in Ashville, will be talking to us about invasive plants, what they are and possible plant substitutions; and the "Bug Doc," Dr. David Shetlar, professor of landscape entomology at The Ohio State University, will be discussing integrated pest management – is it a good bug or a bad bug?
The cost for the day is $45 and includes a continental breakfast, sessions and lunch. There will also be several vendors selling a variety of gardening products for you to purchase, including native plants.

MRDD information fair
March is Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Awareness month and the West Central Parent Group has organized an information fair with over 20 knowledgeable presenters offering very valuable information that will benefit you, your child, or someone you know with disabilities.

The Harrisburg VFW Auxiliary Post 11208 is hosting a bean dinner on March 15 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
SWCS board to fill SWPL seat
The South-Western City School District Board of Education is seeking applicants to fill the vacant Southwest Public Library trustee seat resulting from the resignation of Cressa Rieser.
Rieser’s unfinished term extends through Dec. 31, 2013. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and reside within the geographical boundaries of the South-Western City School District.
Applicants are asked to submit a letter of intent and resume to: SWPL Trustee, C/O South-Western Board of Education, 3805 Marlane Dr., Grove City, Ohio 43123. All information must be received by the Board of Education no later than March 7.
Local authors need old photos
Local authors Janet Shailer and Laura Lanese are seeking photographs to be incorporated into a regional history book about Grove City to be published by Arcadia Publishing in fall 2008 as part of Arcadia’s "Images of America" series.
This project is also part of the local Attics to Archives program and the scanned copies will become part of the Southwest Franklin County Historical Society’s permanent collection. All originals will be returned as promptly as possible to the owners.
The historical society is looking for old photographs (pre-1952) larger than 3 inches by 3 inches in size and smaller than 11 inches by 14 inches. Pictures of landscapes and buildings are most important. Selected photos may be included in the Arcadia book.

Middle school event
Youth to Youth is hosting Experience It! Middle School Leadership Day on March 15 from 9:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. at Grandview Heights High School at 1587 W. 3rd Ave.
This is an opportunity for seventh and eight graders from any Franklin County school to develop leadership skills in a fun and relaxed setting. Students can register by calling 224-4506, ext. 150 and can pay the $2 fee at the door.

FHHS jazz band dinner
The annual Franklin Heights High School jazz band’s jazz dinner and dance will be held April 18 from 6-11 p.m., at the Berwick Manor Restaurant.
Following the dinner, the jazz band will perform. Tickets are $25 per person for adults and $15 for children 11 and under. Discover Ready Night
Bishop Ready High School is hosting Discover Ready Night on March 18, at 7 p.m. at the high school, located on the corner of Mound Street and Salisbury Road. The event is for parents and guardians of elementary school students in grades five through eight.
This an opportunity to learn about the academic, sports, and co- and extra-curricular programs and financial aid/student scholarship programs that the school offers.

New Easter times
The Buckeye Christian Church, 1528 London Groveport Road in Grove City, will have a change in the service times on Easter Sunday – March 23. Easter egg hunt
St John’s Lutheran Church in Grove City, 3220 Columbus St., will host their second annual Easter Egg Hunt and Craft Event on March 13 from 5:30-7 p.m.

Spring carnival
Buckeye Woods Elementary School is planning a spring carnival on May 2.

Teen drama at TUMC
Teens from the Trinity United Methodist Church in Grove City will present "Night of Sorrows," a drama by Jill Libramento, on March 16 at 7 p.m. The church is located at 4850 Haughn Road.
A meal will be served in the multi-purpose room at 6 p.m. The play will follow. Proceeds will help to fund the youth summer mission trip.
