The Ohio Cobra Club once again will hold their annual Cobra Car Show during the London Strawberry Festival. More than 180 cars are signed up to participate in the event slated for June 25.
Show participants will make a grand entrance with a Cobra parade. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office will escort the group for 10 miles from the Speedway Truck Stop near the southwest corner of I-70’s Exit 79 to the show grounds on North Main Street in front of the county courthouse. The cars will arrive shortly after 9 a.m. and stay until approximately 3 p.m.
The show features 1960s-era Shelby Cobra Roadster, Daytona Coupe, and Ford GT40 replicas and originals. Several car-related vendors will be on site in what the club calls Gasoline Alley.
Besides the chance to get up-close looks at beautiful, powerful cars, visitors have the opportunity to go for a ride in one. Charity rides are $10 each with all proceeds going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). Rides start at 10 a.m. Ride tickets will be sold until 2 p.m.
Since its founding in 2001, the club has donated $1.83 million to CFF which raises awareness and funding for research to fight cystic fibrosis, an uncurable disease that makes it difficult to breathe.
The club raises money for the cause through the charity rides, t-shirt sales, and a car raffle. Last year, the raffle brought in $130,000.
This year’s raffle car is a Backdraft Racing RT4 Cobra replica. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the London show or at www.londoncobrashow.com. The drawing will be held at 9 p.m. June 25 during the club’s evening activities in Dublin. Entrants do not need to be present to win.
In addition to donating money to CFF, the Ohio Cobra Club shows its appreciation to the city of London and Madison County by making donations to several local first responder groups: $5,000 each to the London Fire and EMS Department and London Police Department, and $2,500 each to the Madison County DARE program and Madison County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association. This year, those check presentations will take place at 9:40 a.m. on show day near the Masonic Temple on South London Street.
