The Ohio Cobra Club and the city of London enjoy a mutually beneficial partnership. At the Dec. 3 city council meeting, club representatives showed their appreciation by making donations to the London fire, police and EMS departments, as well as to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
The club, made up of Cobra car enthusiasts, holds its annual car show in conjunction with the London Strawberry Festival each June. Law enforcement officers escort the cars into the city, and the city allows the cars to set up on North Main Street for the Saturday of the festival.
Car owners give festival visitors short, revved-up rides in exchange for donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The club also sells raffle tickets for a car giveaway. This year, the two fundraisers brought in over $111,000. The club has donated a total of over $1 million to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation over the past 12 years.
The show brings hundreds of people, from both in and outside of the county and even out of state, to London. This year, Cobra owners from 28 states and Canada participated in the car show, according to club president George Daulton.
“Hopefully, we’ll have even more next year,” he added. “We can’t say enough about how we enjoy bringing the show to London every year.”
