Christmas with the band

While Santa Claus may consider the month of December to be his busiest time of the year, he was able to carve out some time from his hectic schedule to support the marching band at Westland High School as they hosted their annual Band Boosters Holiday Bazaar on Dec. 4. Here, Santa (aka Diego Garcia) takes mental notes as Adam Thornburg (left) and Brady Murphy (right) give him a list of the things the band needs for the upcoming year. All of the proceeds from the bazaar help offset costs from fees, trips and other miscellaneous items. In addition to hosting another Holiday Bazaar on Dec. 11 and 12 (from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday) in the Kroger parking lot at 5800 W. Broad St., the band boosters will also sell cookies and crafts at the Holiday Kaleidoscope Concert which takes place at Westland High School on Dec. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Westland High School band supporters Diana Sullivan and Stephanie Jacobs (not pictured) helped make some of the pine wreaths and pine gnomes for sale. Jacobs said since they were unable to procure trees this year, the band families had to get “more creative.” The local business community also helped by donating crafts and gift cards for the event.
Members of the band played a few festive songs at the bazaar.
