With their new Volunteer Fair, the Madison County Chamber of Commerce aims to provide a one-stop shop for anyone looking to donate their time and talents to help local organizations.
“It will be like a job fair, where you come in, talk to everybody, and see if the volunteer opportunities match up with your time, energy and talents,” said Diane Ulrich, the Chamber’s community relations manager.
The Volunteer Fair is set for Aug. 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Chamber, 730 Keny Blvd., London. Anyone is welcome.
The sponsors are the Chamber, Loving Care Hospice and Home Health, Procter Center, and the Humane Society of Madison County. All will offer information about their respective volunteer opportunities.
Other participating organizations include: Bluebird Retirement Community, Friends of London Public Library, Friends of Madison County Parks & Trails, Lifecare Alliance/Meals on Wheels, London Health and Rehab, London Lions Club, Madison County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Madison Health, Mount Sterling Community Center, Ready FM WCYC 105.1, and United Way.
Ulrich said a conversation with a representative at Loving Care sparked the idea to organize the event.
“We were talking about needs in the community and how there are a lot of organizations that don’t have a lot of volunteers and could use more,” she said. “We hope we get enough interest from the community that we can find some volunteers for these organizations.”
As for why the Chamber decided to spearhead the Volunteer Fair, Ulrich added, “The overall mission of the Chamber is to improve the community. If we have strong non-profits that have good support, we have a strong community.”
