Third-graders from Madison-Plains Local Schools took a field trip April 21 to participate in an Arbor Day/Earth Day celebration at Mason Park in Mount Sterling. The village’s tree and beautification committee hosted the event.
The committee planted two Sterling linden trees at the park the day before. The students helped to fill dirt in around one of the trees and mulch both trees.
Tom Byrne, village administrator, and Alistair Reynolds, an urban forester with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, shared tree facts and answered students’ questions about trees.
After the event at the park, the students were treated to pizza and a showing of Dr. Seuss’s “The Lorax” at the Mount Sterling Community Center.
