With support from local businesses, the Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails (FMCPT) participated in the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s annual Opening Day. The April 13 event served as an official welcome to bike trail season.

FMCPT volunteers help to maintain, enhance and promote the portion of the Ohio To Erie Trail that runs through Madison County. On Opening Day, they invited trail users to stop by the London Coffee Peddler in downtown London for complimentary cake from Vallery Farmhouse Bakery, fudge from Fine Designs & Interiors, and treat bags from Phat Daddy’s Pizza. Ferns from London Florist were part of the welcoming display. FMCPT volunteers made bicycle cookies to give away. Several local businesses also offered discounts at their stores during the event.

Approximately 50 people stopped at the Coffee Peddler during the four-hour celebration, according to Wayne Roberts, FMCPT executive director.
