It’s time again for Uptown Plain City Organization’s (UPCO) Christmas Under the Clock. Now in its 18th year, the annual event is set for Dec. 7 on Main and Chillicothe streets and Jefferson Avenue.

At 5 p.m., a tree lighting ceremony at the clock tower at Main and Chillicothe will kick off the festivities. The Starlight Twirlers will perform, Santa will be on hand, and the tree lighting pixies (winners of the coloring contest) will flip the switch.

Following the tree lighting, Plain City businesses and organizations will host open houses. Visitors can pick up maps at participating businesses that outline the evening’s activities and entertainment. Many businesses will offer hot drinks, refreshments, and chances to win prizes.

Rock On Ice is back again with ice sculpting.

Anyone who can’t wait to see Santa again can hop on a wagon that travels between Lovejoy’s Plaza on Main Street and Yoder’s True Value Hardware, where Santa will happily pose for photos. Jefferson Avenue businesses will hold open houses. Shuttles will move visitors between the businesses. Event organizers encourage visitors to park uptown and take advantage of the wagons and shuttles, or do it all backwards. “Either way, we’ll get you back to where you started,” they said.

At Lovejoy’s Plaza, UPCO will serve up chicken noodle soup and roasted chestnuts. The organization is holding a silent auction for a pair of passes to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Bidding closes at 7:30 p.m. The plaza also will host more entertainment, including ice sculpting by Rock On Ice, sponsored by Middlefield Banking Co.

Members of the Uptown Plain City Organization dish out ham and bean soup at a previous Christmas Under the Clock. This year, they will serving chicken noodle soup.

Businesses on Main Street will keep visitors busy with prize drawings and children’s crafts. Plain City Public Library will hold a book sale and host a cookie decorating station. An interactive nativity scene, courtesy of Plain City Church Fellowship, and a craft fair are planned at Daily Needs Assistance.

UPCO leaders are thankful to the members of the Plain City Business Association (PCBA) for their help in making Christmas Under the Clock happen. PCBA and UPCO will post the activities map in advance on their Facebook pages. The map also will appear on UPCO’s website at uptownplaincity.com. The event wraps up at 8 p.m.

Christmas Under the Clock is one of five events UPCO presents annually to the community. UPCO is a volunteer-run, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to revitalizing Plain City’s historic uptown. The group’s mission is to forge a stronger, more inviting and more vibrant Plain City by hosting community events and assisting businesses and property owners.
