Candidates file petitions to run in March primary

The deadline for partisan candidates to file petitions for the March 15, 2016, primary election was Dec. 16. The same deadline applied for issues.

Candidates

The following individuals turned in petitions. The Board of Elections will meet Dec. 28 to certify the validity and sufficiency of the petitions.

  • Madison County Clerk of Common Pleas Court—Renae E. Zabloudil (R), London
  • Madison County commissioner (term starting Jan. 2, 2017)—Mark A. Forrest (R) West Jefferson; Ronald H. Roach (D), London
  • Madison County commissioner (term starting Jan. 3, 2017)—Paul J. Gross (R), London; David Bryan Hunter (R), London. Also, Andra Troyer, London, filed for this race as an Independent. Petitions for non-partisan candidates are due March 14.
  • Madison County coroner—James W. Kaehr (R), London
  • Madison County Common Pleas Judge—Eamon P. Costello (R), Plain City
  • Madison County engineer—Bryan D. Dhume (R), London
  • Madison County prosecuting attorney—Stephen J. Pronai (R), London
  • Madison County recorder—Charles E. Reed (R), Plain City
  • Madison County sheriff—James P. Sabin (R), London
  • Madison County treasurer—Donna L. Landis (R), London.

Issues

The following issues were filed for the March 15 election:

  • Jonathan Alder Local Schools—The Plain City area school district is asking for a 0.75 percent income tax for 10 years.
  • Village of Plain City—The village is asking for a 0.5 percent income tax.
  • Jefferson Township A—TH Midwest Inc., doing business as Turkey Hill, is requesting permission for Sunday sales under a liquor license permit.

Voting information

The deadline to register to vote in the primary election is Feb. 16. Voters can request absentee ballot applications starting Jan. 1. Call the Board of Elections at (740) 852-9424 to have one mailed or go to www.electionsonthe.net/oh.madison to download the application.

The Madison County Board of Elections is located at 1423 State Route 38 SE, London (just north of Fairhaven School).
