The 2008 Canal Winchester Indians |
The Canal Winchester High School varsity football squad is headed to the state football playoffs for the second year in a row.
Though the Indians fell short of winning a second consecutive Mid-State League Buckeye Division title this year, their 9-1 overall record qualified them for the Division III playoffs. The Indians will play Chillicothe (7-3) in Chillicothe at 7 p.m. Nov. 1.
It is the second time since 1988 the Indians have made the state football playoffs.
This year the Indians ran off nine straight wins before losing in overtime in the season finale, to the eventual Mid-State League Buckeye Division champion, undefeated Logan Elm, by the score of 16-13.
In six of the nine games this year, the Indians dominated their opponents, including shut out wins of 42-0 over Whitehall and 24-0 over Circleville. The team showed its mettle in two tight wins, 14-7 over Teays Valley and 20-16 against Fairfield Union.
