Buffalo Wings & Rings is looking for a franchisee to open a location in London.

Headquartered in Cincinnati, the national restaurant chain has more than 60 locations across the United States, including three in the Columbus area in Grove City, Gahanna and Lewis Center. Management recently announced the company’s desire to expand into London, Washington Court House, and Urbana.

“They have a good reputation. They would bring a lot to the community, and I think the community would receive it really well and support it,” said David Kell, executive director of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce and Madison County Future Inc.

“I’ve always told people, a place like that–family atmosphere where you can go watch a game and have an adult beverage also, and hang out with your family or your friends–would do great in this town,” said Mayor Patrick Closser.

Buffalo Wings & Rings approached city and county leaders a few months ago about their interest in London. The county conducted a traffic study on Lafayette Street. The Chamber provided information on everything from population figures to real estate inventory.

“They got the study, they got the information…and they came back and said, ‘Hey, we’re looking at London,’ ” Closser said.

Company leaders are seeking a new franchisee or an existing franchisee with other locations in Ohio to open the London site, Closser said. They are open to locating the restaurant in an existing building or building from scratch, Kell said.

Kell noted that other restaurant companies have reached out to him and other local leaders in recent months. He attributes the interest to the county’s growth in population and jobs. Recent census numbers show Madison County is the fourth fastest growing county in Ohio.

“We’re finally at that point where people both inside and outside the county realize we’re in a growth mode, so we’re getting more inquiries,” Kell said. “Generally speaking, with more rooftops come more restaurants and retail.”
