The Prairie Township Trustees approved the proposed budget for next year.
“This is just the first step. After this, the board will approve appropriations and expenditures,” said Township Administrator Tracy Hatmaker. “The budget then will be finalized in the first quarter of next year.”
According to the Hatmaker, the township has $2.9 million in the general fund, the fire fund will have a slight deficit, the EMS fund is a little more positive and the service department has $1.5 million in expenditures and $1.19 million in revenue.
Several residents asked if the fire department would be asking for the levy renewal in 2018.
“Right now, it is premature to say exactly what is going to happen,” said Prairie Township Fire Chief Chris Synder.
In other township news, the fire department asked the board to approve paying Buckeye Septic Tank Company $17,930 for the demolition of a section of the front ramp at Station 241, as well as paying Berkshire Boys $15,000 for labor and materials to concrete finish the front ramp.
“The estimate for this was considerably higher, so what I’m proposing is we get rid of the bad section now,” Synder said.
Hatmaker asked the board to approve paying Stantec $4,000 for the preparation of easement for the multi-purpose trail, as well as paying them $57,580 for curb and ramp intersection improvements.
“This is funded through the Ohio Public Works Commission,” Hatmaker said. “It will be for the replacement of 135 curb ramps at 40 intersections in Lincoln Village.”
