Body found along I-71 in Madison County; investigation in progress

An investigation is underway following the early morning discovery of a body lying along I-71 in southern Madison County.

A passerby called the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 3:09 a.m. Oct. 17 about a body lying along the roadway near the 80 mile marker on I-71 northbound in Range Township.

Sheriff’s deputies and medics from Sterling Joint Ambulance District responded. The victim, a black male, was found to be deceased. The Sheriff’s Office is withholding identification until the victim’s family is notified.

The deceased was examined by Dr. James Kaehr, Madison County coroner, and transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Anyone who was in the area between 2 a.m. and 3:10 a.m. Oct. 17 and has information about this death is asked to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at (740) 852-1332.
