The Madison County Board of Elections (BOE) is moving. The office should be fully operational in its new spot by mid-September.
The BOE has been at its current location, 1423 State Rte. 38 SE, London, for approximately 10 years. Its new location will be 288 Lafayette St., London, in the space formerly occupied by Advanced Drainage Systems next to Tractor Supply.
“We’ve outgrown this building,” said BOE Director Daniel Edwards about the State Route 38 office.
The new office has roughly twice the space as the current one. The BOE is creating an in-person, early voting area that is three to four times the size of the area it has for that purpose at the current building.
The new office will have multiple service windows to cut down on wait times for voter check-ins. Employees will have more workspace overall. Another benefit of the new building is that everything will be on one level, including storage which is in the basement at the current office.
Location is another positive.
“We’re going to be a lot easier to find compared to where our current office is,” Edwards said.
The county owns both the current location and the new location. Rob Slane, county administrator, said the new BOE location will be more conducive to interaction with the public. It has significantly more parking, is ADA compliant, and doesn’t present traffic pattern issues, he added.
“We will be glad to get them moved,” Slane said.
As for what will be done with the State Route 38 property, Slane said the county has several options. One possibility is to use it as additional office space for other county departments. Another possibility is to rent it out to a third-party provider for use as a group home.
“We’ve got a few different organizations interested in either purchasing it or leasing it,” Slane said.
