Blanchard named Bexley Educator of the Year

Rose Blanchard, a Bexley High School chemistry teacher, has been selected as the Bexley Education Foundation’s 2008 Educator of the Year. The display case is one of her ways to encourage students to volunteer. Her efforts have resulted in a community-wide book drive over four years that has delivered more than 40,000 books to the schools of Andros Island in the Bahamas, raising literacy rates in the developing country. Blanchard and the Bexley community will play host to five adults and five children from Andros the week of May 12 in a cultural exchange supported by a grant from the BEF.

Blanchard hugs Charlene Morgan, the BEF’s executive director, after the surprise announcement May 2. She will be honored at the foundation’s Education Appreciation banquet May 21.
