Congressman Mike Carey announced his nomination of several Franklin County students to United States military academies.

Elizabeth Agostino was nominated to the United States Naval Academy. Agostino attends Bishop Ready High School and is the daughter of Ralph and Amy Agostino.

“Nominating these exceptional students to the U.S. military academies is a privileged duty as their member of Congress,” Carey said. “I thank these fine young men and women for stepping up to serve our nation and have no doubt that they will cherish the memories made on their way toward becoming commissioned officers, just as I did 31 years ago. I also would like to thank Ohio’s 15th District Academy Review Board for their thoughtful recommendations and assistance in interviewing the students.”

In pursuit of a nomination to a U.S. military academy, students submit their application and are interviewed by Carey’s Military Academy Review Board. The board evaluates the students on academic performance, leadership ability, and community involvement.

To receive a service academy nomination from Carey, candidates must be an unmarried resident of Ohio’s 15th Congressional District, a United States citizen, and between the ages of 17 and 23. Qualified persons interested in pursuing a nomination to one of the United States Service Academies should visit for more information or contact Carey’s office at (202) 225-2015.
