Pies as far as the eyes can see—just some of the good food to be had at the Shekinah Festival.

(Posted Sept. 5, 2017)

More than 250 individuals volunteer their time and talents to prepare for the annual Shekinah Festival & Benefit Auction. Known as the “Biggest Little Festival in Ohio,” the event is the largest fundraiser for Shekinah Christian School.

All proceeds benefit students in grades K-12. More than 30 churches and numerous denominations are represented among Shekinah’s students and staff.

This year, the Festival & Benefit Auction begins at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8 with pulled pork barbecue and homemade ice cream. Hot air balloons will lift off, weather permitting, for a unique aerial display at 5:45 p.m. For ride information, call (614) 504-3068. “One More Soul,” a southern gospel group out of Hilliard, takes the stage at 7 p.m., and a silent auction will be ongoing throughout the night.

A petting zoo is among the festival’s attractions.

The main event begins the next morning, Sept. 9, with an additional hot air balloon lift off at 7:15 a.m., again weather permitting. Delicious breakfast options will be available at 7 a.m., starting with sausage egg and cheese sandwiches, Der Dutchmen donuts and coffee. Children’s crafts and homemade baked goods—including peanut butter, fry pies and apple dumplings—will be for sale starting at 8:30 a.m. Additional food selections—including trail bologna, pizza, taco salad, chicken barbecue and more—will be served starting at 10 a.m.

Children will be entertained throughout the day with a pedal pull, bounce house, zip line, petting zoo, pony rides and more. This year, the auction features a brand new 2018 Jayco RV (tiny.cc/hsueny). Other auction items include handmade quilts, in-home meals, furniture and collectables. Browse the photo section of the festival Facebook page to view many of the auction items.

The Shekinah Festival & Benefit Auction attracts more than 2,500 attendees and is always the second weekend in September. Admission is free. The event takes place on the Shekinah school grounds at 10040 Lafayette-Plain City Road, three miles southwest of Plain City. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page or call (614) 504-3066.
