Bexley students remember troops

Cassingham Elementary student Allisa Holt joins her father, Staff Sgt. Alfred Holt, and teacher Nancy MacLaughlin at a May 23 Memorial Day recognition at Drexel Circle. Sgt. Holt has been training troops in Indiana and will soon be going overseas. Over the last year and a half, the students learned of the sacrifices made by members of the United States Armed Services, as they corresponded with members of Holt’s National Guard Unit, which recently returned from Iraq and Kuwait. The plaques state that the students’ support "made a significant impact on soldiers and units deployed in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom."

Students listened to patriotic songs and speeches before putting flowers at the memorial pylon.

Students, including Courtney Condracke, center,  and Emma Gardner, right, release butteflies as a symbol of freedom.
