Bexley officers honored for ending armed stand-off Bexley honored two of its finest at the Jan. 22 City Council meeting for their outstanding police work when they responded to an armed robbery and hostage situation at a Main Street Wendy’s Dec. 26. Both officers received a proclamation from Mayor John Brennan (left) on behalf of the city. Detective Bob Cuschleg (in white) was also awarded a Department Commendation, and Officer Mike Buechner was also awarded a Bronze Star from Police Chief Larry Rinehart (right). The two officers persuaded the gunman to release his hostage and then throw down the weapon that he had been holding to his own head. After the presentation Chief Rinehart said that the video could be used as a training tool. Buechner has been with the department since 1979, and Cuschleg is a 17-year veteran. Both men are previous recipients of the Citizen Advisory Committee’s Officer of the Year award. |
