Bring an appetite for tailgate food and don your favorite sports team gear for St. Patrick School’s “For the Fan of It” dinner and auction on Feb. 27.
The 10th annual fundraiser will take place at the school’s Parish Activity and Recreation Center, 226 Elm St., London. Tickets to the 21-and-older event are $30 and must be purchased in advance.
The evening starts at 5:30 and includes buffet-style tailgate food catered by Skyward Grille, plus a chili bar, salad bar, and cash bar for adult beverages. Games, raffles, and silent and live auctions are part of the fun. The public is invited to attend.
Amy Morrow, auction committee chair, said a wide variety of items are up for bid, including a television, four tickets to Disney World, and a homemade Ohio State University themed quilt. Other items range from student art projects and parishioner handicrafts to OSU football tickets, Cincinnati Reds tickets, and Columbus Crew tickets. Area merchants have donated products, services and gift certificates. One family donated a feeder pig. The local movie theater pitched in a private screening for 30 people with popcorn and drinks.
“We have items in the $20 range to items in the hundreds of dollars range. There’s really something for everybody,” said Jamie Weiner, event chair and president of the school advisory board.
Raffle options include a 50/50 cash drawing and themed baskets assembled by each classroom at the school.
Proceeds from the evening go toward paying off the construction debt for the Parish Activity and Recreation Center (PARC), which opened two years ago on the school property. Besides serving school gym classes and youth sports teams, the facility is available to rent for wedding receptions, graduation parties and other events. Also, the school and parish use the center for Mass and community events like the recent free spaghetti dinner.
“Being able to have space to do those kinds of things is a real asset to the school and the community,” Weiner said.
