On March 22, the principal of Asbury Elementary School received an allegation that a kindergarten teacher appeared to be excessively harsh when correcting two students, according to information released by Groveport Madison Schools officials.

District officials stated that, upon being made aware of the allegation, the children’s parents were contacted and the allegation was reported to Franklin County Children’s Services. The teacher was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.

In a letter to the teacher from the district, the teacher was instructed to remain off of school grounds and not to have contact with students or district employees, except for union representatives.

“The safety and welfare of our students is unquestionably our highest priority. The district will provide its full support to all investigating agencies. Should this allegation be substantiated, we will take swift and appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including termination,” according to a statement released by Groveport Madison Schools.

According to district records, allegations against the teacher include conduct unbecoming of an educator, improper physical contact with students, and improper language toward students.
